Natural disasters and personal tragedies often require fast, direct help. Telekom supports aid organizations to help people every year - free of charge and unbureaucratically.
Telekom takes on myriad commitments: they range from immediate aid and reconstruction assistance after disasters to bone marrow donations and telephone hotlines for young people and parents.
Fast assistance after disasters
Tsumanis, earthquakes and hurricanes can destroy the lives and well-being of thousands of people in just minutes. Telekom has worked hand in hand with renowned aid organizations for many years to provide fast, unbureaucratic help. Our employees donated to victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the Group matched the sum. A total of EUR 860,000 was raised for immediate aid and reconstruction. During the recent catastrophe in Japan, Telekom arranged for its customers and aid organizations in Germany to communicate with Japan free of charge.
Fighting leukemia together
DKMS, the German bone marrow donor file, is a nonprofit company that depends on the donations and commitment of volunteers. Telekom has organized and financed regular bone marrow typing since 1994, enabling our employees to register as potential donors. 5,000 employees have already been typed.
Direct line for people seeking help
Anonymous, competent, around the clock - the crisis hotline helps people in need directly and free of charge. The TelefonSeelsorge, a telephone counseling service in Germany receives over two million calls each year. Telekom provides the phone numbers from the mobile and landline networks free of charge to callers and organizers. Another place for young people to turn is the "Nummer gegen Kummer", a youth counseling line. In over three million phone conversations so far, the advisers have provided assistance on topics such as partnership, love and sexuality. Here, as well, Deutsche Telekom provides all calls, along with the technical infrastructure, free of charge.
