Visitors see performance capabilities and potential options for use of LTE technology first-hand
T-Mobile continues to blaze trails as innovation driver of next generation mobile network
Videoconferencing with high-resolution images, Entertain from T-Home in top quality, fast online games – and all of it in and from a van on the go: T-Mobile is demonstrating the performance capabilities of LTE technology in the show-case at CeBIT 2009. LTE, long-term evolution, is a potential technology for the next generation mobile network (NGMN). It is expected to offer mobile bandwidths that are exponentially faster than today’s already high transmission rates. T-Mobile is taking the lead in driving the continued development of the NGMN forward.
"We are pleased to welcome CeBIT guests from across the globe and present to them, live, the mobile network of the future on the basis of LTE technology," said Günther Ottendorfer, Director of Network Technology at T-Mobile Deutschland. "In doing so, we reinforce T-Mobile's claim to leader-ship in the domain of network performance and maximum transmission rates. Today and tomorrow, our customers will be able to enjoy top speeds and excellent quality whenever they surf the Internet on their cell phone, Smartphone or mini-notebook."
Showcase on wheels
A key part of the showcase is a van equipped with LTE that drives around the fairgrounds, all the while connected to the Deutsche Telekom stand using the
innovative technology. That way, visitors to the stand can see LTE in action: for example, high-resolution videoconferences between the vehicle’s passengers and the staffers at the stand. They can game online at dizzying speeds with the people in the van, and watch as large files download in seconds. On an extra screen, they can see Entertain from T-Home via LTE. The van is also available to interested trade fair visitors for their very own personal LTE test drive.
As early as CeBIT 2008, T-Mobile was demonstrating LTE with over 100 Mbit/s at the fair stand. In autumn of 2008, the world’s first handover between cells in a real-life setting was demonstrated in a pilot setup in Bonn. The mobile data transmission, conducted on the test route with data rates of roughly 50 Mbit/s, was uninterrupted – and no data quality was lost. The mobility feature fulfills a key technical requirement for the network of the future, making T-Mobile the world’s first network operator to offer an LTE demonstration with handover.
"This year’s CeBIT is an another important milestone on the road to the network of the future," Ottendorfer pointed out. “We will gain valuable experience here and continue to blaze trails in our activities and involvement with all things NGMN."
T-Mobile at CeBIT 2009 – we look forward to seeing you. You’ll find T-Mobile at the Deutsche Telekom Group stand in hall 26.
