Deutsche Telekom launches secure access to the KV-SafeNet with MedicalExchange

Sep 08, 2009
  • Physicians will in future have access to the online services of their Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians

  • Rapid, secure electronic data exchange via the KV-SafeNet

  • Simple installation - Existing infrastructure can be retained

  • Optimum security with certification to KV-SafeNet 3.0, the latest security guideline

Online billing for physicians will become mandatory from January
1, 2011 under the resolution adopted by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV). To meet these requirements, Deutsche Telekom is offering MedicalExchange, which provides simple, secure access to the KV-SafeNet run by the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. Physicians will in future have access to the online services of their Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and, for instance, be able to process their quarterly bills electronically or send/receive referral letters, DMP (disease management program) documentation or screening colonoscopies digitally. This new solution means data no longer need to be stored on a CD or diskettes, and sent through the mail. Consequently, all processes can be mapped more reliably, saving time and money, and with no media incompatibilities.

MedicalExchange is available to physicians for a monthly charge of EUR 19.95 and with no minimum contract term. Added to which is a one-time provisioning charge of EUR 59.95, plus EUR 299.95 for the requisite hardware.

DSL line – the foundation

Deutsche Telekom is offering the full range of services such as KV-SafeNet access, the KV-SafeNet hardware and DSL access as a one-stop solution. If the doctor's office uses a Call&Surf package – in other words, a double flat-rate package including fixed-network calls and Internet – the solution can be installed simply using plug&play. The existing infrastructure can be retained, with no additional charges billed for data transmission. Deutsche Telekom specialists are available 24/7 to answer queries and deal with problems via a service number. As an option, Deutsche Telekom will also install the solution.

The doctor's offices can access the KV-SafeNet via an Internet connection. A KV-SafeNet connector, which is automatically configured once the physician has been identified, as well as a secure, certificate-based VPN tunnel provide secure access. Additional encryption mechanisms help bolster security.

The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians has certified Deutsche Telekom as one of the first providers to meet its latest framework guideline (Version 3.0) – and hence comply with the latest available security standard. Physicians that sign up for a line via a certified KV-SafeNet provider before the end of the year can also look forward to additional savings. Through December 31, 2009, many Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians are offering grants to new users, depending on which statutory body the particular user belongs to.
