Identifying and setting new trends: Deutsche Telekom presents Smart Entertainment at IFA 2012

With a total music service via streaming technology, text messaging including sending files, live video transmission with joyn and television to go, Deutsche Telekom is presenting the future of entertainment at IFA. The advantage for customers: the new services are due for launch very soon.
This is where the music plays - cooperation with Spotify: Wikipedia claims that music is simply an organized form of 'acoustic events'. Anyone who believes this is sadly mistaken and obviously has not heard of Deutsche Telekom's new partnership with Spotify:
From October 2012, over 35.4 million mobile and the broadband customers of Deutsche Telekom will have access to over 18 million music titles both online and offline on their smartphones, tablets and PCs. Music fans will be especially happy to hear that online usage of the Spotify Premium service will not be set against the data volume integrated in their mobile call plans. To avoid this, Deutsche Telekom will offer a new all-in rate for around EUR 30 and an add-on option for existing plans at around EUR 10.
Whereas music collections used to occupy whole rooms steadily collecting dust and where hard drives were required up until only recently, a smartphone is all users need today to access more than 18 million available songs. 15 million people in 15 countries have said goodbye to their music collections and now simply stream their music. Spotify makes it possible for them to enjoy the music on their own as well as, equally important, sharing it with others. All it takes for subscribers to share individual songs or entire playlists with virtually the whole world is a single click via Facebook or Twitter. The Spotify app is available for iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and other operating systems.
Images that move the world - Entertain to go: TV sets have become slimmer and lighter but still will not fit into a handbag and certainly not in a trouser pocket. This is no longer true for Deutsche Telekom's Entertain IPTV customers. Anyone who wants to watch about 40 TV programs on a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone will simply need a WLAN network in their home in future, and will later be able to benefit from the new service on the road, outside their home network.
To start at the beginning: the magic formula is 'Entertain to go'. Entertain to go will kick off with viewers' favorites, and available channels will include SAT1, ProSieben, kabeleins and public-law broadcasters ARD, ZDF and 3sat. In addition, a broad range of content from the online video store will be available to them at home as well as when on the move. You will have access to the video store via the 3G mobile network or WLAN and can therefore slip into any scene of a favorite film at the airport, on a train, in the fitness studio or at any other place you choose.
Entertain to go will be available to all IPTV customers as an add-on option at the end of the year for around EUR 5 per month with a contract term of one month only. As a special treat, Entertain to go can be tested free of charge without any obligation to buy during a promotion phase starting at the end of this year. This new offer will take us one step closer toward achieving a customer base of over 2 million by the end of the year.
Communication of the future - kick-off for joyn: Who knows the names of all the people who have made history? For example, there was Friedhelm Hillebrand (from what was then Deutsche Bundespost) and Bernard Ghillebaert from PTT (predecessor of France Télécom). In 1984, they worked on the original concept proposal for a Short Message Service and integrated it in GSM standardization in February 1985. This became the SMS service, which has written a continuing success story up to the present day. Last year alone, the volume of messages sent rose by 30 percent to a total of over 55 billion, 16.5 billion alone in the Deutsche Telekom network.
28 years and billions of text messages later a new era is starting with 'joyn'! With its 'joyn' service, Deutsche Telekom is set to ring in a new age from December. Again a joint technical specification is being developed into a new standard. And this time mobile carriers and device vendors will roll it out under the name joyn. But, with live video transmission, it now makes even more possible: users can activate the phone camera to add photos or live videos during a normal call, and use the Chat and Send File functions to benefit from a messaging service in 'network operator quality'. The Chat and Send File functions are free of charge for Deutsche Telekom customers with a data or text message flat rate. And live video activation does not incur any additional costs for customers with a voice flat rate or voice minutes package. Joyn functions on any device and on any network operator platform, and is therefore designed to become a new industry standard. In the future, the new world of joyn will be integrated by default in the factory on many Android and Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Owners of older Android devices and iPhone users can simply download joyn as a free app to their device.

Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
