Deutsche Telekom: Entertain to go, TV apps and remote control app make Entertain even more user-friendly

  • Entertain to go: TV now also available on smartphone, tablet and laptop
  • New applications for Entertain: TV apps and remote control app
  • Entertain Comfort Sat: add-on options for even greater diversity

Deutsche Telekom is set to present a whole range of innovations for its Entertain TV service at the IFA Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin. Entertain to go now makes it possible for viewers to enjoy all their favorite programs on a smartphone, tablet computer or laptop. It gives Entertain customers access to 40 TV channels and the online video store in their home network. The free Entertain remote control app turns the smartphone into a remote control, with voice control making operation even easier than before. The new TV apps are another highlight: a broad array of applications can be used on the TV set via Entertain - from the Media Center to Tagesschau and the Bild.de newspaper site. Furthermore, Entertain Sat now comes in a convenience version which enables Entertain Sat customers to bolt on additional TV packages and use high-speed DSL. "Entertain has freed viewers of rigid broadcast schedules. With Entertain to go we are taking the next logical step and give television independence of device and location," says Niek Jan van Damme, Deutsche Telekom Board member with responsibility for the company's Germany business. "With it we underscore our position as innovation driver in Germany's TV landscape." Entertain to go makes TV mobile Entertain to go delivers television to PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones - initially in the home network and, in a second step, via the mobile network for users on the move. 40 channels are now available as Entertain to go kicks off. They include public-law channels such as ARD, ZDF and 3sat as well as private channels that include ProSieben, SAT.1 and kabeleins. This means that Entertain to go not only dispenses with the need for a second TV set but parallel usage also offers customers maximum flexibility. While watching a program on their TV set, for instance, users can search for other interesting programs on a tablet PC and move them onto the big screen with one click of the mouse. The mobile network and WLAN also give Entertain to go customers access to the online video store with a broad content offering. They can still enjoy their favorite films when at the airport, on trains or sitting outdoors in the park. Entertain to go will be available at the end of the year as an add-on option for EUR 4.95 per month with a contract term of one month only for all Entertain IPTV customers. As a foretaste Entertain to go will be starting with a free and unleased promotion. TV apps make Entertain even smarter The new TV apps are available immediately with Entertain: applications for Bild.de, Tagesschau, ADAC, Sport 1 and many more come free of charge for all Entertain customers. The Media World menu item takes users to a choice of around 20 apps at the start, with more being added all the time. This is where the Media Center, with 25 gigabytes of free cloud storage and the e-mail function, will also be available in future. Users can arrange the applications on the interface to suit their own personal wishes. Zapping 2.0 with the Entertain remote control app The free Entertain remote control app transforms the smartphone into a remote control: the Media Receiver can be fully controlled with the new application. Users benefit from shortcuts to navigate conveniently with the app in the Entertain menu. The smartphone also becomes a keyboard, to input search terms for example. The highlight of the remote control app is its voice control, which allows users to operate with voice commands, for example to switch over programs simply by saying the name of the new program. The free app will be available for Apple's iOS operating system from the fall and for Android smartphones shortly after. Entertain Comfort Sat - the best of two worlds Entertain Comfort Sat gives customers a perfect mix of satellite TV and IPTV, including Sat TV, add-on options such as LIGA total, Big TV and HD package, online video store and TV archive, Internet with up to 16 Mbit/s and VDSL option as well as all Entertain convenience functions. As a result, customers have access to more than 280 TV channels via Astra, over 50 of them in high definition quality. Entertain Comfort Sat is scheduled for availability at the end of the year for EUR 39.95 per month.
