"Learn what really counts" qLearning comes aboard as seventh hub:raum startup

  • Supports students with exam preparation and career planning
  • Offers companies a recruiting and employer branding platform

The qLearning team is the seventh startup to move to hub:raum, Deutsche Telekom's incubator. The company's five founders were still students when they got started in February 2012. Their app turns a smartphone or tablet PC into a mobile tutor that helps students study for exams. The free app currently offers more than 50 courses in the areas of economics and engineering at 13 universities in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. "We came up with the idea for qLearning when we were taking our own university exams. We thought there had to be a better way to learn efficiently nowadays. Expensive course materials and revision courses can't be the only solution," says Felix Klühr, one of the company founders. "qLearning's approach won us over right away. Especially since the app also supports career planning, in addition to teaching. Companies can present themselves in the app and offer internships, workshops or other vacancy advertisements," says Peter Borchers, head of hub:raum, about his decision to support qLearning. The app contents are developed by selected students at the respective universities who just passed the corresponding courses. This ensures the content reflects the actual course standard. Users learn and reinforce their knowledge by answering multiple-choice questions and can then take trial tests. In addition to Deutsche Telekom, the Munich-based investment companies K5 Ventures and M-Investar have also invested in qLearning.
