Telekom and Oriflame: a hybrid cloud beauty story

  • Czech subsidiary T-Mobile Czech concluded major deal with multinational cosmetics company Oriflame
  • Hybrid cloud solution and ICT services offered for 60 countries
  • Telekom Cloud services grow across Europe

Telekom Cloud services grow across Europe: In Czech Republic, Deutsche Telekom Group’s subsidiary T-Mobile Czech won a major contract from Swedish company Oriflame, a leading multinational cosmetics firm.

Selling directly to customers, Oriflame is present in more than 60 countries and offers cosmetic products through sales consultants and via its e-shop. In addition to about 7,000 employees, a team of 3 million independent consultants offers a wide range of high-quality organic beauty products. The company has production facilities in Sweden, Poland, China, Russia, and India, with more than 100 scientists working in its global research and development centre and annual sales of around 1.3 billion euros.

As Oriflame’s business grew globally, its infrastructure was becoming more and more costly to operate and upgrade. In addition, it was necessary to invest in extra capacity and power for its servers to support individual applications. The solution was to outsource its entire IT infrastructure to T-Mobile Czech. The hybrid cloud option, combining both on-premises resources and the public cloud was considered the best approach. Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary answer made the IT infrastructure easily scalable and capable of reacting to the core business needs.

350 servers migrated to the hybrid cloud
The solution included the deployment and operation of internal IT systems (eg. accounting systems, data warehouses, business intelligence, etc.) as well as infrastructure. Moreover, it provided a platform for physical as well as virtual servers for more than 50 local websites including the portal for Oriflame consultants. As a result, all 350 Oriflame virtual servers migrated to the T-Mobile Czech hybrid cloud and 9 racks to its data center.

“We are pleased that our strengthened position in the B2B Czech market, also thanks to the acquisition and local integration of GTS Central Europe in the past years, enabled us to provide a competitive, high-quality solution tailored to our customers business needs. This success is a further proof of our strong position across Europe in delivering ICT solutions to business customers,” says Dr. Elias Drakopoulos, Senior Vice President for B2B Europe at Deutsche Telekom. Already the no. 1 cloud service provider for business customers in Germany, Deutsche Telekom’s strategic objective is to become the top cloud provider in Europe.

“What we appreciate most about the solution is the deployment of our systems in the cloud environment, meaning all of our corporate applications are easily available to our employees and consultants,” adds Richard Hamrik, Managing Director IT Centre of Excellence for Oriflame. “It enables us to flexibly react to market demands in any part of the world and improve our customer services.”

The hybrid cloud model, combining local public and private cloud solutions, can offer the best of both worlds. It allows companies with global operations to tap the power of the public cloud, while keeping sensitive or business-critical data on a directly connected private network. Moreover, by outsourcing infrastructure, organizations no longer have to worry about hardware. Deutsche Telekom, one of the world’s leading telecommunication groups, makes sure they have more time to concentrate on what’s really important to their businesses.
