Deutsche Telekom wins BMW
as mobile communications customer
Jun 15, 2012
- Mobile communications contract to run until the end of 2019.
- More than 50,000 SIM cards for employees in Germany.
- Quality of network and service the decisive factors.
Deutsche Telekom has won BMW as mobile communications customer. More than 50,000 of the car manufacturer's employees in Germany will call and exchange data via Telekom's network in future. The contract just signed runs until the end of 2019 and is worth an amount in the mid-range double-digit millions of euros. There are also plans to expand cooperation to include other countries.
In addition, Deutsche Telekom will not only provide the SIM cards for the employees, but also integrate them directly in BMW's business processes. Text messages and mobile data connections, for example, will be used as part of logistics and manufacturing processes, thereby optimizing production processes. The customer was won over by Deutsche Telekom's expertise, the quality of its network and the internationally applicable additional services agreed.
Independent tests performed by the PC magazine Chip and by the consumer organization Stiftung Warentest in recent months have shown that Deutsche Telekom has the best mobile communications network in terms of network availability and quality, both for telephony and for mobile Internet usage.
"We are delighted that we were able to win the customer over with our quality in a market that is otherwise characterized by price wars. Corporate customers in particular are interested not only in the price, but also in the level of network availability and top-level service. It is essential for employees to be reachable wherever they are and to be able to access the company's mobile applications," said Reinhard Clemens, member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Systems. Telekom's share of the corporate customer market for mobile communications is currently over 50 percent.
