E-world 2013: Energy billing made easy

  • Information technology as a leasing model
  • Fixed annual charge per meter under five euros
  • SAP® software included as a service, no up-front investment costs required

Use modern information technology without having to invest - that is what Deutsche Telekom is offering companies in the energy industry. Telekom is showcasing its offering of information technology as a service at E-world 2013. Based on SAP® Business Suite software for the utilities industry providers, network operators, housing associations and meter operators can receive all the tools they need to process data in compliance with new energy market requirements, from device management to billing through to market communication in the case of customers changing their provider. Telekom charges less than five euros per meter/year for this service. What is more, for the first time, Telekom will offer SAP software as a service. "The energy revolution will cost money. Our solution helps to cushion the upfront investment required in information technology, turning it into operating costs," said Gabriele Riedmann de Trinidad, head of the Group business area for Energy at Deutsche Telekom. "It means our customers use a Telekom data center without having to invest in their own hardware and software. Instead, they just pay a flat rate per meter." Updates based on Federal Network Agency regulations Energy suppliers, distribution network operators and meter operators thus receive the entire process chain from a single source. Apart from electricity billing, the system also supports the charging of natural gas, heating and water as part of a standardized data model. Telekom also updates its formats every six months in accordance with the German Federal Network Agency's legal regulations. This means that distribution network operators, meter service providers and meter operators can always be sure of acting in conformity with legal provisions and hence avoid major penalties.
