Artificial intelligence – is it a blessing, or a curse?

Optimists hope that Artificial Intelligence will solve all of our problems. Pessimists worry that AI will take over the world. But who is right?

Quite honestly? Opinions have always been split on this type of topic – it's human nature. Let's look back a few decades, or even a few centuries. When electricity, or the light bulb, were invented, attitudes varied hugely. Some people were afraid of the new technology, while others could foresee the progress that it implied for society and the economy.

We don't even need to go so far back. Some of you might remember the song "Video Killed the Radio Star." Or maybe you remember how, when computer games began finding their way into kids' rooms all over the world in the form of the Commodore 64, lots of critical voices complained that our children would never pick up a book again.

There's always someone who is scared of new technology (at least in the early days). But what is the story with artificial intelligence? In 10 or 20 years' time, will we look back and laugh about why we were so worried, since it has simply become part of our lives?

What do you think? Where do you stand in the debate? What comes to mind when you think about Alexa, Tinka or self-driving cars? Join the debate with us – we look forward to reading your comments at the end of the blog entry.
