Every child has heard of the city, home of the famous and fictional Town Musicians of Bremen. The Hanseatic city on the Weser river has dedicated a monument to the donkey, dog, cat, and rooster from the fairytale. But there are many other

legendary figures to discover here: Gesche Gottfried the serial killer, Heini Holtenbeen a.k.a the “Bremer Original”, the mouse in the cathedral, the clucking hen, and the seven lazy brothers. They all play a role in the long history of the port and trading city. The magnificent Patrician buildings and the Schütting, Bremen’s Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Town Hall and Roland, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, also bear historic significance.

A coastal retreat

There is much more than historic landmarks to explore in Bremen. And the best way to get around is by bike. The two-wheeled method of transportation is very popular here. But when the weather turns poor, you can get to where you need to be quickly and conveniently by bus or tram. You could visit the Viertel district with its many bars, pubs, and snug, narrow alleyways, for example. Or Überseestadt, where the former docklands have been given a new lease of life and gradually developed into a vibrant district. And if you want to breathe in the fresh sea breeze, a trip to Bremerhaven is a must!
