In addition to its 620,000 or so residents, Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, is famously home to Porsche and Daimler. The metropolis lives up to the Swabians’ reputation for being thrifty – they even save the rain here! Having said this, Stuttgart is one of the regions that receives the least rainfall in Germany. If this wasn’t reason enough to become a fan of Stuttgart, the city has another ace up its sleeve: Vineyards in the heart of the city. Have we won you over yet?

After-work activities in Stuttgart

Everybody has heard of Oktoberfest. The Cannstatter Volksfest, on the other hand, is our insider tip. Once a year, the festival grounds on the banks of the Neckar are transformed into the region’s biggest pleasure mile, which brings in up to 4 million visitors. Besides this festival, the Schlossplatz square is one of the most popular meeting places in the city. The green spaces and cafés lining the square make it worth a visit all year round. Around the square, there is a variety of shops on the Königstraße retail strip as well as attractions including the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the New Palace or the Württemberg State Museum in the Old Castle. If you want to take a day trip, we recommend Tübingen. Around 45 kilometers away, it has one of Germany’s most beautiful Old Towns.
