Glossary Cloud Computing

As a pioneer in cloud computing, Deutsche Telekom has been providing dynamic ICT services for more than 10 years now, and runs more than 40 million SAPs serving over 2.6 million people using SAP in productive operation via the cloud. More than 250 businesses around the globe now make use of this platform according to their own individual needs.

In addition, Deutsche Telekom's cloud offerings make it a pioneering ICT provider in the automotive sector, facilitating the development of alternative mobility concepts and new digital business models. As a hub for global cloud infrastructure, the campus upon which Germany's highest technology data center is hosted was opened in Biere/Magdeburg in 2014. We explain some of the core functions of our global offering in the glossary.

If you use cloud computing, you no longer need a hard drive. Because your data, or even entire applications, are hosted on the net. You simply access your data via the Internet. Any time, any place. Whether the user is a private consumer or a company – there's no need to worry about anything. There is no installation or administration cost, and no software, application, infrastructure or server maintenance to be done either! It is almost like getting power from your wall socket.

The cloud is open to everyone. Because users can easily access their data any time, any place via the Internet. For example, private users can use the public cloud just as if it were a constantly accessible hard disk.

For large businesses and international corporations, but also for public bodies, T-Systems has made yet another new contribution to data security: the private cloud. Larger customers and public bodies tend to have more demanding security requirements.

Services from private and public clouds are combined in hybrid clouds, along with any IT services that businesses need to operate in-house. In such systems customers can, for example, take advantage of the cost benefits provided by public clouds while at the same time making the most of the security capabilities of private clouds.

An ever growing number of businesses are discovering the benefits of cloud computing for themselves, making their usage of business applications simpler, more flexible and more mobile. Deutsche Telekom is constantly working on new solutions to make the ICT systems that support business processes even better.

Deutsche Telekom has a presence in cloud computing all over the world. We work closely, for example, with Brazilian health insurer Intermedica, South American media giant PRISA, African glass maker Consol and Swiss aviation group Jet Aviation.

To allow customers to access their services from the cloud around the clock, Deutsche Telekom operates highly secure data centers all over the world. The first of these went into operation in Frankfurt in 2005. The largest one in Germany was opened in Magdeburg-Biere in 2014.

All Deutsche Telekom's data centers are security certified. In particular, the data centers in Germany are subject to Germany's strict privacy laws, in addition to EU regulations.
