Cyber Security Highlights at CeBIT 2016

Deutsche Telekom is aiming to become the European market leader for security solutions. To that end, it is planning to establish a new business unit, "Telekom Security." Although the launch of this new business unit is still pending, at CeBIT.

Deutsche Telekom will already be showing new products from the area's "Magenta Security Portfolio." In addition, the company will present interesting studies regarding potential new products and services, and it will meet with customers to discuss their requirements in light of some intriguing beta versions of new products.

What can you expect from us in Hanover this year? We invite you to read on for a first impression.

Our SecuritySolutions:

In cooperation with innovative partners, Deutsche Telekom is offering two new solutions that are currently setting new standards in the market. Anyone who wishes to learn more about complete, comprehensive protection from the cloud, and about the new generation of mobile security products, should visit Deutsche Telekom's CeBIT stand (Hall 4, C. 38), or should attend the press conference on security topics that will be held on Thursday, March 17, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon.

Other new products include a VPN solution from the cloud that is easy to install and easy to operate. A live demonstration of that system will also be provided at the Deutsche Telekom stand.

Germany's SME sector accounts for more than half of the German economy's entire economic output. In Hanover, Deutsche Telekom will show "Managed Security Services for SMEs," a complete package of offerings and solutions to keep SMEs secure.

The company's portfolio for SMEs comprises a coordinated range of products that protect data and applications, ICT infrastructures and networks, terminal devices and identities – and that quickly detect attacks and guard against them. Consulting and security-assessment services round off the SME portfolio.

Last year, Deutsche Telekom took the unprecedented step of publishing "T-POT," a complete set of assembly instructions for its honeypots.

This year, Deutsche Telekom introduces sensors that can be integrated, as internal alarms, in corporate and home networks. Attackers who have penetrated within systems can easily give themselves away by triggering functions that address such sensors. Deutsche Telekom is already using such internal sensors, and it has created a user interface for them that displays alarms, along with information about the type of attack / malware being used in each case.

It also plans to show this new user interface in Hanover. On March 11, Deutsche Telekom will also publish its assembly instructions for its community honeypots here.

You just want to complete a presentation for a customer, and then check the balance sheet for last month – and suddenly your IT system goes down. Soon, Deutsche Telekom will be offering small companies the same sort of computer help ("Computerhilfe") that has been such a success with consumers.

At CeBIT, the company plans to show its Business Computer Help and Business IT Support ("Computerhilfe Business und IT Business Support"). With these two services, problems with such things as data backups, virus protection and office applications get handled in a flash. The company's experts provide immediate assistance – by phone, via remote maintenance or on site.

Computerhilfe Business is definitely the right choice for the simple hardware and software issues that freelancers encounter, while the IT Business Support service is aimed at small company networks with more-complex support requirements.

Deutsche Telekom and the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) will in future offer a simple way of encrypting e-mails for everyone. At CeBIT, the two partners plan to provide an overview of the solution, which will become available in the first half of 2016.

The software is very user-friendly, and it will gradually be upgraded and enhanced once it has been launched. Anyone who wishes to register now for this new "encryption-for-everybody" system can do so with Fraunhofer SIT. To register at CeBIT, simply fill out a form and identify yourself via your personal ID card or passport. Then you'll receive a "check card" with your personal registration code printed on it. With that code, you can then sign up for the new encryption service as soon as it becomes available.

A range of new Voice Encryption Services will soon enable secure communications over all types of devices. The new services, which began as an app and which use the strongest encryption procedures currently available, could well develop into a comprehensive range of offerings.

At CeBIT, Deutsche Telekom plans to present the services in pilot form and see how customers like them. Conceivably, Voice Encryption Services would support integration of customers' own Voice over IP (VoIP) systems within encryption suites. On the hardware front, a number of secure cell phones and fixed-line phones will also be shown.

The new devices are aimed at business customers – for secure mobile communications at home and abroad, secure telephone conferences, secure calls between different company locations and secure calls from within home offices. Currently, only Deutsche Telekom is testing a complete range of such products and services.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are often unsure about just how effective their IT security measures and systems are. And they also often lack IT security expertise and have very tight overall budgets. As a result, they can easily overlook security vulnerabilities and potential entryways for cyber criminals.

With its new "Virtual IT Security Officer," Deutsche Telekom plans to assist SMEs in analyzing the security status of their office IT systems and in enhancing their IT security levels. The Virtual IT Security Officer is a small box that companies integrate within their networks. It is easy to install and set up, and no special IT security expertise is required to operate it.

Once it has been installed, it automatically checks the customer's IT network, reviews all of the network's security configurations, scans for potential security vulnerabilities and analyzes the security products in use. At CeBIT, Deutsche Telekom will show a beta version of the Virtual IT Security Officer.
