Big changes start small!

  • Deutsche Telekom is launching a new sustainability drive: "Big changes start small!"

"Big changes start small!" is the theme of Deutsche Telekom’s new campaign for the protection of the environment and society being launched on September 5, 2009. The focus of this campaign will be on presenting the products and services with which Deutsche Telekom's customers can act responsibly and reshape their lives to be more comfortable at the same time. Deutsche Telekom is the first telecommunications provider in Germany to embark on this route for communicating sustainability.

"This campaign is not about clapping ourselves on the back. We aim to show that entrepreneurial spirit, appropriate consumption, and sustainability can be meaningfully combined," said Deutsche Telekom CEO René Obermann at the launch of the campaign in Bonn. "The idea behind the initiative is that each of our customers can do a lot for sustainable development by making a modest contribution."

Online Billing is one such example. The online billing system saves around three pages per month for each customer, which translates into 240 meters of paper for just one million customers, the same height as the Dusseldorf TV tower. Altogether, Online Billing will save more than 1,500 tons of paper, the weight of around 135 buses. At present, over 14 million customers use the Online Billing service - some 10 million at T-Home and 4 million at T-Mobile.

This long-term campaign will present over 16 themes illustrating sustainability concepts. Up to the end of the year, the subjects will be Online Billing, child protection software, and download portals. Through these measures and products, the Company enables consumers to conserve resources and reduce CO2 emissions.

The sustainability initiative will be advertised on television, in the print media, and online: www.millionen-fangen-an.de (starting on September 6, 2009).
