Deutsche Telekom expands vocational training capacities

550 additional slots for IT trainees for 2002, with a total of 4,000 slots throughout Germany in the coming training year - Deutsche Telekom currently employees 9 740 trainees Deutsche Telekom has increased its offer of IT training positions for the year 2002 by 550 slots, bringing the current number of all training positions up from 3,450 to a total of 4,000. The majority of the 550 additional slots for initial vocational training will be on offer in urban centers, where the operational demand is highest. 100 of the slots have been allocated for dual studies schemes, whereby students interlink practical training with a course of scientific tertiary studies.

By introducing these additional training slots, Europe's biggest provider of telematics services continues to systematically pursue its long-standing strategy of catering for its in-house personnel demands by way of training qualified young job-starters. Thus, Deutsche Telekom has once more taken a step to help counteract the shortage of skilled IT workers, underscoring its special social and educational commitment to training for job-starters.

At the beginning of the 2001 training year in late summer, around 3450 young school leavers will start out on their career within the Deutsche Telekom Group. Assigned to more than 80 locations around the country, these young professionals-to-be will put themselves in the hands of Germany's no. 1 telecoms corporation to be taught the skills needed to become successful participants in the TIMES growth sector. These youngsters and young adults will be trained by the Deutsche Telekom Group to enter the ranks of 13 different professional fields. The training positions on offer within the company's program range from IT to administrative training and even to training schemes that include integrated tertiary studies. The diversity of operational fields and the flexible structure of the training program means this up-and-coming workforce will be able to choose from an interesting range of occupational disciplines and will be provided excellent professional opportunities. Deutsche Telekom's training program extends to all operational platforms within the Group. IT training, a main focus of the program, is available within the company's T-Com (including T-Networks), T-Systems , T-Mobile and T-Online divisions, with 2,070 contracts having been entered into for IT-related training.

Another group of just under 1,400 youngsters is learning the skills required for administrative professions. In parts, their training is being conducted in virtual learning facilities which involve trainers and teachers joining forces with their trainees to compile training content via the PC. At the outset of the new training year, more than 9,750 young individuals will have a training contract with Deutsche Telekom. A disproportionately high number of these contracts have been entered into in the country's eastern states, so as to help reduce the inherent shortage of training opportunity in that region.
