Success in Europe - hub:raum opens doors for start-ups

  • hub:raum helps young Israeli start-ups to get a foothold in Europe
  • New program in Tel Aviv and Berlin offers targeted support
  • SCREEMO is the first participant piloting the program

Along with Silicon Valley, Israel is one of the leading start-up centers worldwide. In recent years, a lively start-up culture has been established here with many companies specializing in new technology solutions - with which they can be successful in Europe as an alternative to the United States. It's this particular aspect that a new program from hub:raum, the Deutsche Telekom incubator, will be picking up on from mid-June: the hub:raum team wants to offer Israeli entrepreneurs targeted support in getting a foothold in Europe and making their business ideas a commercial success. "We know the start-up ecosystem and the in-depth technological know-how here in Israel, and hold this in high regard. We are able to open doors for the start-ups within Telekom and partner companies, giving them a further push towards success. In this way, we want to make use of synergies and bring products to the European market together", explains Min-Kin Mak, Senior Vice President New Business Deutsche Telekom and head of hub:raum. The program consists of several components. First, the start-ups are prepared specifically for the particular requirements of the European market by mentors in Israel. At the same time, the hub:raum team speaks to pilot customers within and outside Telekom, and arranges face-to-face meetings. The start-ups are then provided with offices by hub:raum in Berlin in order to get a foothold in Europe with local help and advice. Financial support also helps to cover some of the travel and accommodation costs. In total, the program lasts three months. In return, hub:raum has secured the option of participating in the next start-up financing round via T-Venture. As the program launches, hub:raum has already set-up inital partnerships with accelerator programs from TheJunction and TheTime in Tel Aviv and is open towards additional partnerships with such programs. The first start-up piloting the program is Tel Aviv based SCREEMO. SCREEMO's product is particularly interesting at sports events, as it enables users real-time personalized interaction between digital screens, social media and their smartphones. Together with Telekom, SCREEMO will carry out three pilots this year in Germany. Who can apply for the start-up program? Israeli early stage teams which already have a B2C or B2B product suitable for Telekom's activities and the European market. Interested start-ups can find out more from Deutsche Telekom and apply at www.hubraum.com .
