COSMOTE first in Greece to record mobile broadband speeds up to 42.2 Mbps

  • COSMOTE upgrades its 3G network and successfully records unique downlink data speeds, on both Greek and international levels

COSMOTE’s network is the first in Greece and among the first 10 in the world to record mobile broadband downlink data speeds up to 42.2 Mbps on trials under real network conditions.

COSMOTE, yet again a pioneer in the mobile broadband sector, dynamically proceeds to further upgrading its 3G network. By successfully implementing the Dual Carrier[1] operation of HSPA+ technology of the 3G network, COSMOTE managed to achieve downlink speeds up to 42.2 Mbps. The trials were run on upgraded live network nodes.

Continuous investments on network upgrading to provide supreme quality communication and high end technology services to all its customers, remains a top priority for the company.

Implementing advanced broadband infrastructure, COSMOTE offers its customers further enhanced coverage at the fastest speeds available.

[1]The Dual-Carrier operation is based on the aggregation of two carriers and is a standardized HSPA+ feature of 3GPP Rel-8 for the downlink (DC-HSDPA). Via the use of Dual-Carrier operation at the downlink, peak downlink data rates of up to 42.2Mbps can be achieved, while mobile operators with access to multiple adjacent WCDMA frequency bands can make efficient use of spectrum by operating HSPA on two adjacent 5MHz carriers.
