Deutsche Telekom enhances rate plan: Call & Surf Comfort via Funk package now much faster

  • More than double the download speed
  • Existing customers benefit automatically
  • Same price, more service

The Call & Surf Comfort via Funk rate plan is set to gain speed. As of September 1, the maximum download speed of 3,000 kbit/s will increase to 7,200 kbit/s. Uploads will be almost three times as fast as before, with speeds of up to 1,400 kbit/s. The monthly charge of EUR 39.95 will, however, stay the same - meaning customers get more service for the same price. Current subscribers to the Call & Surf Comfort via Funk rate will benefit automatically from the new scope of service. Deutsche Telekom bases its Call & Surf Comfort via Funk service on the LTE (Long Term Evolution) and HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) mobile communications technologies, eliminating a series of 'white spots' on the broadband map. In other words, customers using this service will be able to surf the net several times faster than was previously possible in their area. Simple router usage via WLAN To use the high-speed wireless internet, customers need a special router. Deutsche Telekom supplies an HSPA or LTE-enabled device, depending on the technology used to service a specific area with Call & Surf Comfort via Funk. Both Speedport HSPA and Speedport LTE have a WLAN function, so that these routers operate without needing to be 'wired'. All they need is a power socket nearby to supply electricity. Customers who subscribe to the new Deutsche Telekom service are provided with a SIM card for the router. This SIM card can only be used in a specific location, so will not function when on the move. The Call & Surf Comfort via Funk rate comprises a data flat rate for internet usage and a landline with a telephone flat rate for the fixed-line network in Germany. The minimum contract term is 24 months. Customers who subscribe to the new service can keep their existing landline numbers. The router is available at a monthly rental rate of EUR 4.95. The HSPA model costs EUR 149.99 to buy, the LTE version EUR 249.99. Call & Surf Comfort via Funk is also an attractive proposition for business customers, who pay a net monthly rate of EUR 33.57. Customers who already subscribe to a DSL service at up to 2,000 kbit/s can easily change over to Call & Surf Comfort via Funk. If areas that are currently served with Call & Surf Comfort via Funk are upgraded to DSL in the future, customers will again be able to move to an equivalent DSL rate. Consumers can find more information about Call & Surf Comfort via Funk and service availability on the Deutsche Telekom website at www.telekom.de/via-funk, where they can register to be notified as soon as the service is available in their region.
