T-Mobile improves its Prepaid offering

  • Xtra Card: 5 cents per minute and text message to the T-Mobile network, now only 15 cents/minute to the fixed network and other mobile networks
  • Low prices outside Germany: default Smart Traveller option

Deutsche Telekom is making it possible for prepaid customers to phone at even lower prices in 2010: Under its Xtra Card rate, the standard for the Xtra SIM card without a cell phone, T-Mobile will be reducing its minute price for domestic calls to the fixed network and other mobile networks from 19 to 15 cents. This price drop is also valid for the online prepaid rate, Xtra Click. Both rates are naturally maintaining their rock-bottom price of 5 cents for each call minute and each text message sent within the T-Mobile network.

T-Mobile is also set to offer the Xtra Card rate as a self-service offer through selected retail partners and chain operators in the food retailing, drug store and multimedia segments for a retail price of EUR 9.95 and with a starting credit of EUR 5. Users simply activate their SIM card by calling the free customer hotline.

On top of this, all customers who use Xtra to make phone calls outside the country will notice a major improvement. In future, they will automatically have a preset Smart Traveller option. In this case, outbound calls from country group 1 to Germany, and within the country they are visiting, will cost only 29 cents/minute, and the first 60 minutes for inbound calls in country group 1 are actually free of charge. In addition to this, all incoming and outgoing calls to and from country group 1 incur a nonrecurring charge of 75 cents. Country group 1 comprises all EU countries and several other European states such as Switzerland.

Alongside its Xtra Card plan, T-Mobile naturally continues to offer attractive prepaid handsets in the Xtra Nonstop rate with the Xtra Nonstop Plus option. Under these rates, customers pay only 29 cents per call to Germany's fixed network and the T-Mobile network. Besides this, only 29 cents are due for up to 100 text messages sent per day into the German fixed network and within the T-Mobile network. The Xtra Nonstop Plus option costs EUR 1.49 per month.

The new prices are valid for new customers as of February 2, 2010.
