Telekom: Entertain also available via satellite in the future

  • Entertain via satellite enables reception throughout most of Germany
  • TV and radio signals via satellite, interactive add-on services such as online video store via DSL
  • Cooperation with Astra: satellite signals of the highest quality and HD reception with HD+

In 2011 Entertain, the TV service from Telekom, can also be received via satellite so that it will be available in nearly all parts of Germany. Thanks to cooperation between Deutsche Telekom and Astra Deutschland, the Entertain Sat package will not only offer all the uncoded TV channels that are available in Germany via satellite, but also the option of receiving all HD+ channels. Typical features of Entertain, such as the online video store, TV archive and program manager, will be available in Entertain Sat with a minimum DSL bandwidth of three Mbit/s. Time-delayed television, an electronic program guide and a hard disk recorder with a storage capacity of 500 GB will also make Entertain's convenient and flexible TV viewing possible via satellite. Entertain Sat will offer the full range of functions available in Entertain with the exception of the optional LIGA total! and TV packages.

"Currently we provide Entertain to some 20 million households in Germany", says Christian P. Illek, Head of Marketing at Telekom Deutschland GmbH. "With our Sat offering we want to reach new customer groups and enable even more people to experience our convincing TV service. Potential customers are the 16 million households throughout the country that rely on satellite television. Another key factor will be the discontinuation of the analog satellite signal in early 2012."

"The cooperation involving Astra, HD Plus and Telekom demonstrates the advantages of satellite reception and the appeal of HD+", says Ferdinand Kayser, President and CEO of SES ASTRA. "Direct reception from Astra satellites, along with the broad HD offering and the interactive add-on services from Telekom, all represent a very attractive combination of media services."

Entertain Sat via Astra will offer up to 330 TV and 260 radio channels, and the HD+ smart card delivered with the package will enable reception of all HD+ channels including RTL HD, Sat.1 HD and Pro7 HD. Convenient features such as the time-shift function and the electronic program guide (EPG) are included in the package along with a personal video recorder with a hard disk capacity of 500 GB. Recording can be programmed up to 14 days in advance via the EPG or with the program manager via PC or smart phone. The online video store and TV archive offer thousands of films, series and documentaries - all on demand. This content is available in "Download & Play" mode: The viewer can start watching the film even as it is being downloaded. Much of this material is available in HD and 3D format. In addition to TV, Entertain Sat will also include flat rates for fixed-network telephony and for the Internet.
