Carefree on the go worldwide with Deutsche Telekom

  • Mobile World Congress: Deutsche Telekom presents solutions for secure mobile communications
  • Mobile Encryption app: Encrypted calls in all situations
  • Corporate Security Hub: Malware stopped before it reaches user devices

Secure mobile communications is a major focus in Deutsche Telekom's security portfolio. At the Mobile World Congress, the company is presenting solutions that make it even easier to make calls and surf the web securely on the go: with the Mobile Encryption app, Deutsche Telekom is one of the first providers to market a globally deployable mobile encryption solution for smartphones. The second solution, the Corporate Security Hub, is a security solution that protects mobile devices against attacks and malware from the Internet. This involves checking the entire data traffic in real time and removing any risks. The Corporate Security Hub is directed at major corporate customers throughout the world. The Mobile Encryption app is currently available to major corporate customers in Germany, but there are plans to launch it internationally and to the SME segment as well.

No chance for wiretappers: Mobile Encryption app
The Mobile Encryption app already available from T-Systems makes it possible to make encrypted calls, even under the most inhospitable conditions. In contrast to other solutions, the app works in every mobile network and even without a SIM card, via Wi-Fi. The solution enables encrypted communication even in countries that block Internet phone calls. The app merely needs a bandwidth of 4.8 kbit (net), which means it also works in areas with poor network coverage. The Mobile Encryption app implements the strongest encryption methods currently available on the market, which even cryptographers think cannot be cracked in the foreseeable future.

When two users want to communicate with this solution, they only need install the Mobile Encryption app on their smartphones. No customer-specific technical infrastructure is needed in the background. The keys, which enable secure communications in the solution, are generated only on the smartphones used and are deleted immediately at the end of a call. They are always under the user's exclusive control, fully independent of the network provider.

The application areas of the solution include, but are not limited to, confidential contract negotiations, merger talks, research and development and even witness protection programs. The solution costs between 15 and 20 euros per device each month, depending on procurement volumes.

Filter out malicious code easily: Corporate Security Hub
The Corporate Security Hub filters out malware from the Internet before it reaches smartphones and tablets. The cloud-based solution can be provided to the customer quickly and easily. Without advance investments and implementation effort, the anti-virus protection, firewall, URL, and content filtering functions are available to corporate customers as a service. There is no need for the provision and updating of endpoint security software for all operating systems and no time-consuming license management.

The new service lets each customer decide individually which protective measures they want to implement: they can choose which source and destination addresses they want to allow or block in Internet traffic, e.g., blocking known botnets. Additional protection is provided by encrypting communications through a secure connection (SSL VPN tunnel). If employees log on to the Internet through an insecure hot spot, for example, external intervention is blocked; the service also prevents session hijacking, in which criminals join a communication link unnoticed and skim the information.

The service is based in the cloud, which provides additional advantages with regard to flexibility, scalability and central management. Company devices can be registered and configured according to the company policies easily through a web portal. An overview of attacks can be generated at the touch of a button.

The solution can be operated in a Deutsche Telekom data center. The gateway that connects the customer's corporate network to the Internet is thus relieved of the mobile devices' data traffic. Deutsche Telekom takes over software updates and the import of security patches on the central platform for the customer.

The solution is available to corporate customers worldwide. At the launch of the offering, the license will cost between EUR 3.00 and EUR 3.50 per month subject to a minimum acceptance quantity of 400 mobile devices.
