Teamwork in the Cloud: cloud offerings for the SME segment

  • Cloud applications for better teamwork
  • DeutschlandLAN Connect: new entry-level package for connected work
  • Cloud Workplace: smart PC with Windows 8 plus Cloud Center App

With its new cloud applications, Telekom helps small and medium-sized enterprises improve teamwork and communicate more efficiently with customers and partners. "Data from the cloud is available anytime and anywhere - not only for colleagues, but also for customers. At the same time, the cloud is helping companies to reduce their IT operating costs," says Dirk Backofen, head of Marketing for Business Customers at Telekom Deutschland GmbH. Telekom assumes end-to-end responsibility for cloud services. "We deliver services with high levels of availability and security, and we take care of billing and service as well - in fact, we can even provide the customer with appropriate network connectivity upon request. No one else in the market can do this," explains Dirk Backofen. With a focus on enterprises that have several sites, Telekom offers the DeutschlandLAN Connect solution, a new entry-level package that enables connected work. Depending on the size of the business enterprise, this product is available in S, M and L versions. Telekom plans to launches DeutschlandLAN Connect L at CeBIT. This solution gives customers high-speed Internet connectivity, CompanyConnect 10 M, with speeds up to 10 Mbit/s, synchronous in both directions, along with quality of service. The second part of the package is iMeet, the online meeting room in the Telekom Cloud. Up to 15 employees at different sites can simultaneously exchange information about projects or share documents and product videos with customers. "Cloud Workplace" is another CeBIT highlight that Telekom has for SME customers. The solution is based on the Samsung ATIV Smart PC running the Windows 8 operating system. One key advantage is that the operating system can be used intuitively on all end devices. Thus the design of the menu and prompts on the Smart PC are the same for the Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone, which is also available from Telekom. And Telekom customers benefit from a special offer: If the Smart PC or smartphone is used with a SIM card from Telekom, customers have access to a Telekom Cloud Center App free of charge. The pre-installed app gives users access to Telekom's cloud products. These include, for example, partner applications from Microsoft such as Exchange Online 2010 for professional e-mail communication, SharePoint 2010 for collaboration in teams, CRM Services Online, for managing customers and projects, or Office 365 as a complete suite. Larger enterprises in the SME segment will also be interested in Telekom's ManagedIT Services, which offer dynamic IT resources from the private cloud. The resources are delivered as standardized modules with open interfaces that can be integrated easily in existing IT infrastructures. Telekom runs all services in German data centers and ensures high-availability levels of up to 99.9 percent. New modules for more IT security are also being unveiled at CeBIT. "Managed Network Security" is the Telekom solution that delivers Net Generation Firewalls from the cloud. The module can be combined with network connectivity such as CompanyConnect or Ethernet Connect as needed. The second new module, "Managed Endpoint Security", is designed for external storage media and controls USB sticks, hard disks or SD cards. In addition to business desktop PCs, the cloud solution can also safeguard mobile workplaces against viruses, Trojan horses and other forms of malware. At CeBIT this year Deutsche Telekom is also showing the "Managed Private Cloud" module. This solution delivers scalable IT capacities according to the V-C-E industry standard so that virtualized IT resources in the customer's data center can be expanded. What's more, SMEs have the option of transferring all of their data center functionalities to the TelekomCloud via the "Virtual Private Data Center" solution. Both solutions can be managed by using the "Managed Self Service Portal." Thus IT resources such as main memory or processing capacity are available to customers at the push of button when needed. For managing mobile end devices and the applications used on them, business customers in the SME segment can rely on the "Mobile Device Management" cloud solution. During CeBIT this year Telekom is introducing three new functions that increase the security of sensitive business data. "Docs@Work" encrypts e-mail attachments and ensures that they can only be opened with a Mobile Device Management client. "AppConnect" protects business applications installed on mobile devices against unauthorized access. And the "AppTunnel" function lets the IT administrator define the applications on the smartphone, tablet and other devices that an employee may use for secure access to the company infrastructure, without the need for a virtual private network. Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 5 - 9 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand C26. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
