Telekom Cloud: the number one for data privacy and compliance

  • Bitkom Cloud Monitor: users see Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems miles ahead of the competition
  • Data privacy, compliance and location are the decisive factors when using a public cloud

Public cloud customers place great trust in Deutsche Telekom, helping make it the No. 1 in terms of data privacy and compliance. In the Bitkom Cloud Monitor 2016 survey, 26 percent of respondents confirmed that Deutsche Telekom and its business customers arm T-Systems provide high levels of data privacy and compliance. With only half that figure (over 13 percent), IBM took second place in the survey, closely followed by Microsoft (over 12 percent).

According to the Cloud Monitor survey, location is a decisive factor in this context. The vast majority of respondents want their cloud data center to be situated in Germany (76 percent), with nearly as many (72 percent) also wanting their provider to be domiciled there. “Germany has a clear competitive edge when it comes to trust,” says the report.
Customers also consider the integratability of solutions to be just as important as the location of their public cloud, with three-quarters of the surveyed companies according this aspect special significance.

“The results of the Cloud Monitor survey carried out by Bitkom and KPMG confirm our strategy,” said Anette Bronder, who is Director of T-Systems’ Digital Division and responsible for cloud business. “T-Systems and Deutsche Telekom have been making significant investments in the expansion of their cloud infrastructure as well as in data centers and IP networks. Our public cloud offerings, which comply with Germany’s stringent data privacy laws, are in high demand among small and medium-sized enterprises.” Deutsche Telekom launched Open Telekom Cloud, its public cloud service for SMEs and corporate customers, at this year’s CeBIT. „Especially the combination of easy-to-use cloud services with security and compliance makes our cloud offering so unique,” stressed Dr. Ferri Abolhassan, Director of T-Systems responsible for the IT Division and Telekom Security. “The cloud is the basis for the digitization of our economy. But it must be secure. That’s why we bundled our group-wide security know-how in our Telekom Security unit,” he added.

The Bitkom Cloud Monitor survey also revealed that over half of all companies in Germany (54 percent) already make use of cloud services. Three-quarters of them talk of the enhanced availability and performance of IT services from the public cloud. At the same time, almost two-thirds of respondents (62 percent) name security and compliance as their biggest worries when using cloud computing.
