Telekom expands its international network portfolio for corporate customers

  • Deutsche Telekom selects Akamai Cloud Networking to enhance IP-VPN portfolio
  • Greater performance and reliability for internet connected IP-VPN services for international company sites
  • Deutsche Telekom aims to lead in European corporate business

Deutsche Telekom is expanding its international portfolio for corporate customers. T-Systems has signed a partnership agreement with Akamai, the global leader in content delivery network (CDN) services, to extend and enhance its business IP-VPN service for multinational companies. In February, Deutsche Telekom bundled its corporate telecommunications business into a new unit and by doing so, is striving to become the number one Network Service Provider (NSP) for business customers in Europe.

Patrick Molck-Ude, who is responsible for network business for Deutsche Telekom's corporate customers, says, "We want to continue growing with corporate customers, and coming from our position as number one in Germany, we want to advance our position in the European market and internationally with our new portfolio. Selecting Akamai technology for optimized Enterprise Networking over the Internet is part of this strategy."

Willie M. Tejada, senior vice president and general manager, Cloud Networking at Akamai continued, “As an increasing number of enterprises look to leverage the Internet as a mission critical application delivery channel, the performance and reliability challenges become more apparent. This is especially true when branch office employees across the world are accessing applications over the Internet.

The new IP-VPN offering from Deutsche Telekom will utilize Akamai Cloud Networking Internet Optimization capabilities to bolster the performance of Internet IP-VPN traffic for enterprises. Deutsche Telekom has developed a solution that leverages Akamai technology to identify the best performing routes across the Internet to significantly improve the quality of transmission for Enterprise Networks. When a better performing route is identified, data is dynamically diverted in real time. This makes the delivery of Enterprise critical applications over the Internet faster and more stable.

New service especially for branch offices and subsidiaries distributed around the world
With this new portfolio, Deutsche Telekom is targeting corporate customers with large numbers of globally distributed branch offices and subsidiaries that do not have access to connections via high-performance digital networks for voice and data (MPLS, Multiprotocol Label Switching) and that want to use Internet infrastructure. Intercontinental, long-distance connections pose a particular challenge for corporate networks. The new solution provides customers in addition to MPLS with a better performing connection for Enterprise locations over the Internet.

Deutsche Telekom will provide the new service as of beginning of 2016. Customers with existing IP-VPN contracts can book the service as an addition to their contract. The portfolio is available internationally. Costs vary depending on scope and region. Customers can find here more information.
