Three founding fathers of the digital revolution on a single stage

  • The founders of Virgin, Wikipedia and the World Wide Web are all coming to Germany
  • DIGITAL X has brought Sir Richard Branson, Jimmy Wales and Sir Tim Berners-Lee to Cologne
  • The annual finale of Europe’s largest digital initiative on October 29 and 30, 2019

The initiators of DIGITAL X have already met with success in 2018 during the event’s first year, hosting global technology star Steve Wozniak on-stage at the event. And now they have achieved another coup. In 2019 three international heavyweights will be appearing on main stage of Europe’s largest digital initiative at the same time. All three have had a decisive influence on the digital world we now live in, and are among the most sought-after speakers on the planet.

The organizers of DIGITAL X 2019 are really flying the flag in their choice of top speakers for the initiative’s grand finale. Because the main purpose of the initiative is clear: to spur on Germany’s digital revolution. The organizers believe that putting inspiring figures on stage as role models for the digital transformation is an important component of their task. And this year they have succeeded in attracting three of the finding fathers of the digital world: Sir Richard Branson, Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Jimmy Wales.

Sir Richard Brenson

The adventurer

For many, Sir Richard Branson is one of the great heroes on the issues of progress and disruption. Among his achievements is making a reality of such ambitious projects as Virgin Media and Virgin Galactic. On October 29, the first day of DIGITAL X 2019, Branson will be speaking about his visions for the digital world of tomorrow.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee

The genius

Without him, the world would not be what it is today: Sir Tim Berners-Lee. In 1990, he combined three technologies – HTML, URL and HTTP – and in doing so, laid down the foundation stone for the internet. On October 29 in Cologne, Berners-Lee will be discussing the challenges and opportunities of the digital revolution together with Alex Choi, Senior Vice President for Research and Technology Innovation at Deutsche Telekom, in a panel discussion chaired by Nazan Eckes.

Jimmy Wales

Jimmy Wales

The networker

Jimmy Wales, joint founder of the Wikipedia knowledge platform, is much more than simply the first and most successful internet platform entrepreneur. A figure who almost like nobody else stands as a symbol for the same goal as DIGITAL X – facilitating knowledge exchange – he will be taking the stage on the second day of DIGITAL X 2019. “Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge” is one of his most well-known quotes.

As unreachable as these three icons may seem to be, during their appearance at the grand finale of DIGITAL X they will be very approachable. All three will be speaking on the main stage of the Koelnmesse trade fair halls. In encounters with the press, they will be answering questions from journalists and the general public.
