Recognizable at first glance: De-Mail addresses provided by Telekom end with "de-mail.de"

  • Telekom opts for "de-mail.de"
  • Easy to recognize ending creates trust.
  • Details of the De-Mail offering will be given at CeBIT

Deutsche Telekom had to decide what its future De-Mail addresses would look like, and opted for the "de-mail.de" ending. Consumers and corporate customers should be able to recognize at first glance the secure address for legally binding e-mails. Dr. Frank Wermeyer, business manager for De-Mail at Deutsche Telekom, says: "De-Mail is as binding as a letter and just as easy to use as e-mail. With the clear ending, our customers can immediately distinguish De-Mail from other messages. At the same time, we send a clear signal that De-Mail is trustworthy. Our customers can soon see for themselves what advantages De-Mail has to offer." Decision in favor of "de-mail.de" Telekom deliberately opted for de-mail.de and against creating its own ending. The De-Mail Act which came into force in 2011 allows future providers to freely choose the domain ending for marketing purposes. Consumer associations and companies such as Telekom requested a standardized domain ending in the interest of customers. By choosing de-mail.de, Telekom intends to help the new service gain acceptance rapidly. The company hopes that other providers will also go along with the decision and thus help build security and trust for customers using the Internet. What the De-Mail addresses look like In the future, for individual persons, the De-Mail address will include their last name and first name or part of the first name and, where necessary, a number as well as the Telekom identifier, for example: First name.last name1@t-online.de-mail.de . Corporate customers can also order sub-domains from Telekom in the future. The company name will then be part of the De-Mail address: First name.last name @my company.de-mail.de . In addition to personalized De-Mail addresses for individual employees, companies can also set up function mailboxes, such as Procurement@my company.de-mail.de . It is much easier to assign messages to individual areas or locations in this way. Companies which already have their own ".de" domain - for example Mycompany.de - for communicating by e-mail, are automatically entitled to use this domain as a De-Mail sub-domain in an initial phase. They must only apply for the use of it once from their provider during registration. Telekom will present the De-Mail offering at CeBIT With De-Mail, a secure electronic counterpart to today's letter mail is being launched in Germany. With the new service, individual people as well as companies can send and receive messages and documents securely, confidentially and verifiably over the Internet. At www.telekom.de/de-mail , interested parties can reserve a desired Telekom De-Mail address. Over one million e-mail customers across Germany have already done this with different providers. Telekom is currently obtaining certification as a De-Mail provider from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and will launch its De-Mail service for corporate customers and consumers this year. Details will be presented by Telekom at the CeBIT computer fair in Hanover. Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 6 - 10 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand D26.
