Once again the industry's attention is turning to Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. In the run-up to the world's largest mobile communications trade fair, Claudia Nemat, Board Member for Technology & Innovation, explains what will be important for Deutsche Telekom at MWC19.

Claudia Nemat, Member of the Deutsche Telekom AG Board of Management, Technology and Innovation.

Claudia Nemat, Board Member for Technology & Innovation: "We enable the smart digital society."

It all kicks off on February 25. Over 100,000 visitors are expected at booths representing more than 200 countries, showcasing the very best the industry has to offer. And DT will be there. Are you excited about MWC19?

Claudia Nemat: We are positioning ourselves in Barcelona as the leading European telecommunications provider. I can't wait to show the trade fair audience and the general public all the innovations that back up our claim. And I enjoy working with my teams getting our booth ready and then being able to see how it all goes. I am also looking forward to talking with partners and customers at this key industry trade fair.

Every year, Deutsche Telekom has something to wow MWC visitors. In 2016 it was the world record for 5G network latency. In 2017 the data glasses with ZEISS. And in 2018 the first public broadband connection from a plane, to name just three examples out of many. What have you got in store this time?

Claudia Nemat: MWC has always been a great place to showcase our achievements, where we have looked to the future, especially over recent years with our developments for the new 5G communication standard. And that's exactly what we'll do again in 2019. This year, our booth's message is: the future is now. 5G has arrived. For example, with breathtaking augmented and virtual reality worlds and other applications. With tangible solutions that make city life easier and more environmentally friendly. And with high-performance campus networks that enable companies to automate their processes based on their needs. Just like MWC18, we are continuing to make a smart, digital society possible. We employ smart networks to deliver the best connectivity across our three trade fair focal points.

Your examples touched upon Deutsche Telekom's three focal points: consumers, smart cities and businesses. And you've placed them all under the banner "#TAKEPART" .

Claudia Nemat: Yes, we believe that the digital world offers many opportunities for everyone. And we want to use our networks to open up access to them. We are investing billions to make that a reality. The motto for our three trade fair focal points is: We want to show visitors how they can benefit from interactive applications, sustainable cities and solutions that are tailored to companies.
