CeBIT 2015: Free Deutsche Telekom program package protects computers and smartphones with software from Germany

  • Protection package easy to download and install
  • Customers request alternative "made in Germany" offering
  • Premium version with more functions planned

Deutsche Telekom has joined with four German IT security providers to put together a free-of-charge software package for consumers and small and medium-sized companies. The package will be available in the second quarter. The collection of protection programs closes all the main security gaps in computers, smartphones and tablets. The package contains an anti-virus program, an application for encrypted Internet connections, a secure data storage unit, encryption software to protect data in the cloud, and a program that ensures privacy when surfing the Internet. The free offering is available to download with the market launch at www.telekom.de/schutzpaket. A premium version of the offering with additional functions is planned.

At CeBIT in Hanover, T-Systems CEO Reinhard Clemens said: "Customers are often unsure when it comes to security software. Since the Snowden revelations, they are also anxious and asking for a "made in Germany" protection solution. Deutsche Telekom wans to make it easy for as many people as possible to secure their smartphones and computers. That is why we are expanding our existing offering to include an easy-to-install package version from Germany."

Virus protection program on millions of devices worldwide
From Internet security experts Avira comes the anti-virus program to protect Windows PCs and Macs, smartphones and tablets with the iOS and Android operating systems, and servers and networks against malware, using an integrated realtime scanner. Avira Antivirus also scans downloads, folders and hard disks. This free-of-charge and multi-award-winning anti-virus application by Avira protects millions of devices worldwide. Avira is one of the world's leading anti-virus manufacturers.

Never been cracked: VPN tunnel for encrypted Internet connection
The Steganos Online Shield VPN provides customers with a protected tunnel through which their Internet data traffic flows in public networks like Wi-Fi networks, LANs and mobile networks. The program encrypts Internet connections using the highly-secure AES 256-bit procedure. The built-in anonymization technology conceals online identities, making it more difficult to tap personal data while the user is surfing. The solution also conceals the IP addresses of devices, so hackers can no longer identify them as potential victims. Many millions of users in a total of 141 countries trust the products of this Berlin-based company. Steganos' encryption products have never yet been cracked.

Secure data storage in a German high-security data center
With the HiDrive online hard disk, the Telekom subsidiary STRATO offers private users and companies the option of creating a secure back-up of their data in a German high-security data center. Users can securely access the online hard disk from anywhere in the world using any device with Internet access via an encrypted connection. STRATO only saves data in its high-security data centers in Germany.

Better data protection through encryption for the cloud
The protection package includes the Boxcryptor software from Secomba for users who want to protect particularly sensitive data from espionage. The software encrypts files before they are uploaded from the PC or smartphone to cloud providers such as Dropbox or Strato HiDrive. In 2014, Secomba won the "Deutscher Gründerpreis," a German award for entrepreneurs, for this IT security solution.

"Avira Browser Safety" protects personal information when surfing the Internet. This browser extension blocks malicious websites and tracking by advertising networks, so they can no longer track what a user is searching for or purchasing online.

Secure online hard disk "TeamDisk"
Apart from the protection package, Deutsche Telekom also offers other programs for computer security: Users wanting to securely store large files, share them with colleagues and customers, and access them from anywhere, can also book the "TeamDisk" application from the Business Marketplace. Deutsche Telekom provides this online hard disk from its highly-secure German data centers. All data transmission is also encrypted. Users can define in the user administration area of the Business Marketplace which employees are allowed access to TeamDisk. For a net price of EUR 7.95 per month users are allocated 100 GB of storage space for up to 100 users. The amount of storage space can be increased in 100-GB increments as required.

Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 16 - 20 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand C26. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
