Austria: T-Mobile nationally honored as exemplary training organization

  • Honored by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth
  • Since 2006, 175 apprentices have been trained at T-Mobile Austria
  • Innovative admissions from application to continuous further training

T-Mobile was nationally honored by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth as a training organization according to paragraph 30a of the Vocational Training Act. This honors the exemplary performance of national training organizations and T-Mobile's role as a key provider of impetus as well as a best practice in apprenticeship training.

T-Mobile excels particularly in apprenticeship training in the following aspects:

  • During the first month, in-depth onboarding at T-Mobile with a welcome day and starter training focusing on the participants getting to know one another and the organization, true to the motto: "Life is for sharing."
  • During the three-year apprenticeship, high-quality instruction through trainings on self-development: communication and presentation, sales, self-management and learning management, team building, and acquisition of social skills.
  • Utilization of up-to-date learning methods such as e-learning using interactive e-trainings on a variety of subjects about T-Mobile's range of products.
  • Good career prospects upon completion of apprenticeship: Up to 80 percent of the successful apprentices remain within the organization.

"Apprenticeships have a very high status at T-Mobile and are highly attractive for young people entering the job market. We are seeking youngsters with a personality, who enjoy sales and customer service activities. Every year, we receive over 1000 applications for about 30 to 40 training positions. When deciding on suitable candidates, a selection of T-Mobile customers is also involved. The training is of a high quality, and we are proud of our apprentices and those who have graduated," explains Joachim Burger, Managing Director of Human Rersources at T-Mobile Austria, when receiving the honor. Training apprentices since 2006 In 2006, T-Mobile Austria was the first mobile communications company to launch an apprenticeship initiative and establish vocational training for retail business administrators specialized in telecommunications. In 2010, the second vocational training, for office administrators in customer service, followed. Currently over 80 apprentices are training across Austria in T-Mobile's Shops and customer service. 69 young sales talents have already completed their apprenticeships at T-Mobile Austria, of whom 39 passed with distinction and 19 passed with merits. No T-Mobile apprentice has ever failed their final exams. One of the reasons for this being the differentiated selection process and the innovative training concept. Early during the selection process the candidates' general education and language skills, but more so their social skills and personalities are closely examined. This is why sales and service executives as well as HR experts alongside T-Mobile customers are involved in the selection process. In 2013, T-Mobile has another 40+ training positions to fill. Career goes social media Since March 2011, T-Mobile has been forging new paths in recruiting, using their own career page on Facebook. On this page, interested Facebook users can find out about opportunities for joining various corporate divisions as well as about training, read current job offers and actively get in touch with T-Mobile using the pinboard. So-called T-Stories are used where potential applicants can meet apprentices who are already working at the company successfully. They describe the tasks of an apprentice to make the contents and the organization more "tangible." In addition (former) apprentices and trainers are providing tips & tricks for a successful application. This makes it possible to meet future apprentices on the communication channels very commonly used by this target group. Another 46 new apprentices welcomed In the current apprenticeship year, and for the seventh time in a row, T-Mobile is training committed secondary education graduates to become sales and communication professionals. Over the course of three years, 46 young adults will be trained as general sales people specializing in mobile communications and mobile Internet. One notable focus of the training is service orientation. Again this year, teenage refugees are being supported in cooperation with the "lobby.16" association to participate in the apprenticeship initiative. Beforehand, the chosen young people take part in a six-month preliminary program to optimally prepare them for the apprenticeship.
