The Telekom and the Festival Committee of the Cologne Carnival will make the Shrove Monday in Cologne a virtual experience. For that to happen the communication company from Bonn will showcase even two so called Street Gigs on February 27th. Before US superstars OneRepublic will mix up the Carnival in Cologne virtually, local heroes Kasalla will pump up the crowd of Shrove Monday’s procession on a moving music float.

“For us being true Colognians, a life’s dream will be fulfilled. It’s huge that we are able to be part of the Shrove Monday procession and can transport some Colognian lifestyle to the world,” explains frontman Bastian Campmann.

Impressions from their performance will be shared within the “best network” and social media, far beyond Cologne’s city limits. OneRepublic will also be guests on the wagon.

The US superstars OneRepublic will give a concert in the evening after the procession at Cologne’s Carnival Museum. This will be broadcasted via 360° HD live stream on live.telekom-streetgigs.de: “We have a special relation to Germany and the Carnival is such a great, atmospheric and peaceful event. We are very proud to be part of it this year with the live stream of our concert.”

This way, not only the estimated 1.5 million visitors of the “Domstadt” but fans throughout Germany can be part of the digital concert experience with OneRepublic.

Pioneering cooperation

For the Festival Committee of the Cologne Carnival the cooperation is setting a new direction. “Carnival unites all people, no matter how big or small, poor or rich or where they are from”, says Markus Ritterbach, President of the Festival Committee of the Cologne Carnival. “Thanks to our partnership with Telekom we have the possibility to use innovative technology to transport the special joviality and ease of this cultural heritage on new digital paths. Due to the use of 360 degree technology this will be an unforgettable experience for all participants.”

Telekom supports this path. “With live performances of OneRepublic and Kasalla we are staging the world famous Cologne Carnival as an exciting content- and live-event in the best network“, explains Michael Schuld, Head of Communications und Sales Marketing of Telekom Deutschland. “Carnival enthusiasts throughout Germany can be vividly present. This way, once again, we impressively put our brand claim ‚Erleben, was verbindet‘ into action.“

World stars OneRepublic meet local heros Kasalla

OneRepublic is one of the most successful bands worldwide. After being awarded with multiple platinum and gold awards for their albums “Dreaming Out Loud“ (2007), “Waking Up“ (2009) und “Native“ (2013) OneRepublic released their new album “OH MY MY“ last fall. “OH MY MY” reached the chart’s top positions in over 100 countries. The Grammy-nominated band played in 154 cities in 26 countries over the last two years. Their huge hits include “Counting Stars“, “Apologize“, “Love Runs Out“ und “Wherever I Go“ and they have sold over 12 million albums. Moreover, Ryan Tedder already secured his place in pop music’s hall of fame as producer and songwriter for artists such as Taylor Swift ("1989") and Adele ("21"). For both works he has been awarded a Grammy Award. The work on OneRepublic’s current album “OH MY MY” substantiates the band’s personal credo: “If you do not constantly evolve and rise above your limits to see if your idea works, than you are doing something wrong.” With the 360 degree HD live stream OneRepublic will do this once more – this time together with Telekom.

Meanwhile Kasalla is well-known throughout the boundaries of Cologne, currently the most popular “Kölschrock“ band and delights not only at the Cologne Carnival. The band celebrated their five-year anniversary with two sold out concerts on September 9th and 10th 2016 in front of 30,000 fans in the LANXESS arena. Bastian Campmann, Flo Peil, René ‘Ena‘ Schwiers, Nils Plum and Sebastian Wagner founded the band in 2011 according to the catchphrase “Alles kann –Kölsch muss“ (“Everything can– Colognian is a must“). The Kölschrocker will delight the visitors of the Shrove Monday procession with hits like “Pirate“ or “Immer noch do“ and their newest single “Mer sin eins”. In fact, the band is by far not only a Colognian phenomenon, their third album “Us der Stadt mit K“ achieved 12th place in the German charts in February 2015.
