Not only has the World Wide Web become the vital platform for electronic business; business processes both within and between companies are increasingly based on the fast flow of information via the Internet. Local computer networks are linked via the Internet to form comprehensive information and communication networks. Connections to business partners have been put on a completely different basis with extranets, i.e. closed networks based on the Internet Protocol (IP).

T-DSL plays a significant role in this: thanks to the combination of high-speed, low-price connection technology and broadband backbone networks, Deutsche Telekom also opens up the advantages of broadband communication to small and medium-sized companies. Deutsche Telekom provides its business customers with a wide T-DSL range which extends from high-speed Internet connections to complete solutions for wide area networks (WAN). The bandwidths are scalable for many products; the Internet connection can thus simply and quickly be adapted to the growing requirement for powerful transmission.
BusinessOnline Deutsche Telekom's BusinessOnline provides small and medium-sized business customers, that use a BusinessCall fixed-network tariff, with an attractive entry to broadband Internet communication via T-DSL. BusinessOnline enables a transmission rate of up to 1.5 megabit per second (Mbit/s) downstream - i.e. from the network towards the user - and of up to 192 kilobit per second (kbit/s) upstream, i.e. in the opposite direction. This saves valuable time with online applications whilst at the same time providing the basis for new multimedia applications. The additional advantage is that the T-DSL technology can be used by several computers simultaneously in a local computer network. In addition to T-DSL access and an Internet access account, the all-in package contains ten e-mail addresses, an Internet business card in the form of a homepage and access to a special business portal on the Web.
The dial-in and call charges in BusinessOnline are not calculated according to time but according to data volume. The decisive effect: users can stay online permanently. The basic monthly charge of EUR 25.50 (excl. VAT) includes a data volume of 1 Gbyte; up to a transfer volume of 10 Gbyte, each MByte costs 3.3 cents (excl. VAT); from 10 Gbyte you are only charged 2.1 cents per MByte (excl. VAT). To ensure costs are not excessive, the maximum volume charge is EUR 450.00 net per month. For the "self install" version, the installation charge for BusinessOnline is EUR 44.45 plus VAT. BusinessOnline is tied to a basic T-ISDN line and a BusinessCall tariff for which additional charges apply. BusinessOnline 2300 is due to be on the market as of May with a downstream speed of up to 2.3 Mbit/s per second.
T-InterConnect dsl The transport and access platform T-InterConnect offers business users fast and direct access to Deutsche Telekom's high-performance Internet backbone. T-InterConnect products make permanent connection to the Internet possible at a speed of up to 155 Mbit/s and a fixed IP address. Long dial-in procedures are thus a thing of the past, downloads and uploads are speeded up considerably. Flexibility, security, a comprehensive service and excellent value for money are further strengths of fast network access via T-InterConnect.
Deutsche Telekom combines these strengths for its business customers with the possibilities offered by T-DSL. T-InterConnect dsl is particularly suitable for downloading large quantities of data and for surfing the Web. This package offers the user bandwidths of up to six Mbit/s downstream and up to 576 kbit/s upstream.
A low-price and customer-oriented T-InterConnect dsl all-in solution is T-InterConnect Office Solution. Specially designed for small and medium-sized companies, T-InterConnect Office Solution connects the entire company network to the Internet via just one fixed broadband Internet access and an easy-to-install Internet server. A major advantage of the all-in-one solution is that the server is individually preconfigured by Deutsche Telekom. All functions required for company-wide Internet usage are provided: an external and internal mail server, e-mail addresses for the employees, a web server, web access for all workstations in the LAN, an integrated file server and the possibility of remote access for external access to the company network by employees working in the field. A further advantage of T-InterConnect Office Solution is the security factor. The firewall integrated in the Internet server effectively protects the company's local network from unauthorized access from outside.
The basic monthly charge for a T-InterConnect Office Solution in connection with T-InterConnect dsl 1.5 Mbit/s is 289 euros a month (net). On top of this are the charges for the amount of data transmitted.T-InterConnect IntraConnect dsl is the right solution for the creation of an entire company network. IntraConnect is the low-cost way of connecting all locations and all mobile employees of a company in a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and thus making a company-wide intranet. This is realized on part of the Internet backbone intended specially for this purpose and thus offers particularly secure communication.
The "Dial IP" product variant makes it possible to access this kind of intranet using analog or digital dial-in accesses. IntraConnect naturally facilitates the creation of extranets. To guarantee secure data communication, the data packages transferred are "tunneled", i.e. a virtual, secure point-to-point connection is created within the IP backbone. With dial accesses, there is an additional authentication of the users.
T-ATM dsl DSL connections are also available for the multimedia broadband network platform, T-ATM. T-ATM, Deutsche Telekom's high-quality service for data transmission, satisfies even the most demanding requirements in terms of bandwidth, flexibility, data security and reliability. The ATM technology (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) offers very high transmission capacities - guaranteed if required - of up to 155 Mbit/s per second which can be used flexibly. T-ATM connections allow the user to transmit data, voice, image and multimedia information. T-ATM is particularly suitable for wide area network solutions on homogeneous platforms.
T-ATM dsl bundles the innovative technologies T-ATM and T-DSL to create an efficient and flexible data communication solution. T-ATM dsl allows you to use the advantages of T-ATM via standard copper cable - i.e. without an optical fiber line - at a particularly attractive price. Deutsche Telekom provides three line variants with maximum transmission rates from two Mbit/s downstream and 192 kbit/s upstream to up to six Mbit/s or 576 kbit/s respectively.
Deutsche Telekom realizes individual all-in solutions for its business customers based on T-ATM and T-ATM dsl in the true sense of one-stop shopping. Integral parts include consistent network management from network configuration through commissioning and access security to fault clearance, itemized billing data and analysis of performance figures.
A turn-key solution package for high-speed data transmission with T-ATM dsl is DataExpress. As with ISDN - but with much higher speeds - DataExpress allows the creation of point-to-point connections between different business partners to exchange large data packages directly. DataExpress is available as a symmetrical or asymmetrical solution with a maximum of six Mbit/s downstream and up to 530 kbit/s upstream. In addition to the transmission bandwidth, DataExpress is characterized by high availability and network security. DataExpress also provides an access option to Grapheno, a client-server solution which is specially tailored to the requirements of the printing and media industries.
