Live demonstrations of broadband voice and data connections based on UMTS - Hourly UMTS videocalls to London on the Telekom Highlight Stage- Networked solutions from T-Mobile Future House afford a glimpse into the future of mobile multimedia Under the heading of "Mobile Future" T-Mobile International is showing at this year's CeBIT an attractive selection of broadband voice and data applications of next generation mobile communications. In live demonstrations interesting developments from the T-Mobile Future House in Vienna are presented, as well as innovative multimedia services on the basis of UMTS technology (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and the latest studies on terminals.
For the entire duration of CeBIT, visitors to the Telekom booth experience mobile communications of the future in its international dimension. Every hour on the Highlight Stage T-Mobile makes UMTS-based video connections between Hanover and the research laboratory of its British subsidiary One 2 One in London.
Together with its technology partner Siemens, T-Mobile is presenting at its CeBIT booth a UMTS test network specially set up for the Fair, which not only facilitates live voice connections, but also and for the first time broadband data transmissions of up to 384 kilobits per second. As an example of the innovative multimedia applications that UMTS technology will make possible in the future, a video telephone call is demonstrated. Voice and data are transmitted via a UMTS prototype terminal and a notebook. At another live demonstration interested visitors to the Fair can see with their own eyes what high speeds are possible with UMTS. T-Mobile demonstrates mobile access to multimedia pages in the Internet and the streaming of complex video and audio files via a UMTS mobile phone.
Visitors to the Fair can also see for themselves and try out innovative applications from the T-Mobile Future House in Vienna. With T-Mobile Future House, T-Mobile International has a unique development laboratory for the mobile multimedia applications of the future. At CeBIT, networked solutions in the fields of mobile shopping, mobile entertainment or mobile news give visitors an impression of the benefits of the next mobile communications generation. There are demonstrations of how current sports highlights can be called up in audiovisual form, as well as examples of the mobile purchase of music files, games, movie tickets or tickets for other events.
In addition to the live events, T-Mobile presents current design studies on mobile telephones of the next generation and information on the state of the art in such technologies as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and UMTS. The main suppliers of UMTS technology at present apart from Siemens are Nokia and Nortel Networks.
