Open Telekom Cloud Adds Full Terraform Support

  • Based on global partnership of Huawei and HashiCorp
  • Customers benefit from fast infrastructure provision

T-Systems and Huawei, the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced the full support of the popular infrastructure provisioning tool Terraform. Benefitting from a global partnership with Terraform provider HashiCorp Open Telekom Cloud customers are now able to provision infrastructure resources using a specific Terraform tool.

Terraform offers users a simple, consistent workflow to safely and efficiently provision, change, and version cloud infrastructure. Enterprises have adopted HashiCorp products across multiple cloud platforms, and the new official provider support will bring the same powerful workflow to enterprises managing infrastructure on the OpenStack-based Open Telekom Cloud. In a global partnership both Huawei and Huawei-enabled Cloud Service Providers are to take advantage of the full benefits and support that HashiCorp DevSecOps tools have to offer.

Modern enterprises often struggle to manage different workload types (virtual machines, containers, binaries) across multiple public and private clouds. HashiCorp tools provide a common workflow to manage infrastructure heterogeneity from different cloud providers. With this collaboration, HashiCorp and Huawei commit to not only continue to broaden the number of services that can be provisioned with Terraform but also expand the future collaborations into other popular HashiCorp products and tools including Vault, Packer, etc..

More options for accessing the Public Cloud

"A key element of our mission is to enable organizations to provision, secure, connect, and run applications on the infrastructure of their choice," said Burzin Patel, WW VP, Alliances at HashiCorp. "We see the initial release of the Terraform provider for Open Telekom Cloud as continued progress in providing choice to organizations to use the infrastructure best suited for their applications. Through the collaboration with Huawei and T-Systems, our joint customers can confidently utilize Terraform to safely and efficiently provision Open Telekom Cloud resources.”

"In the interest of our clients we want to make it as easy as possible to obtain services from the Open Telekom Cloud. With Terraform provider support customers have an additional option to access our public cloud," stressed Andreas Falkner, VP Open Telekom Cloud at T-Systems, adding: “HashiCorp's proven track record developing infrastructure automation solutions for the modern data center provides exactly the experience that our customers expect and deserve.” Deutsche Telekom and its enterprise customer unit T-Systems are constantly enhancing their cloud ecosystem provided from data centers around the globe, serving the cloud infrastructure needs of a global community of enterprise developers.

The combination of HashiCorp tools like Terraform and the Open Telekom Cloud IaaS platform will empower more customers to migrate to the cloud. As an ever-larger number of enterprise customers and organizations adopt cloud infrastructure, an open, trusted, and local cloud service such as Open Telekom Cloud is seeing tremendous growth among Terraform users.

"HashiCorp has set a high standard for infrastructure automation across public and private clouds," said Zhipeng Ren, President Cloud BU West European Business Dept., Huawei Cloud BU. "We're excited that HashiCorp tools now fully support managing Open Telekom Cloud resources, and look forward to our enterprise customers leveraging these tools to improve their operator workflows across large teams and global infrastructure. We choose to develop a Terraform provider for HashiCorp’s leadership market position, easy-to-deploy, practitioner involved open source approach to enterprise customers and developers to take advantage the latest development and services from multiple cloud services. HashiCorp's popularity with our enterprise customers and multi-year track record of partnerships with the world's largest cloud providers gives us great confidence and will enable Huawei Cloud and Huawei-enabled Cloud Service Providers to deliver on the Make IT Simple, Make Business Agile mission."
