On Saturday, U.S. band Thirty Seconds to Mars wowed a crowd of 1,300 at Berlin’s Postbahnhof venue – along with hundreds of thousands of others who watched the gig on their smartphone, notebook, tablet or TV.
U.S. band Thirty Seconds to Mars, who released their last album four years ago, played a string of their best-known tracks and gave the debut performance in Germany of new single “Walk on Water”. Lead singer Jared Leto (pictured) is a true all-rounder. Not only does he sing and play guitar, he is also an outstanding movie actor and won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2014 for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
The entire street gig was streamed from three cameras in both HD and 360 degrees. As a result, viewers were able to get an amazingly intimate experience of the concert on smartphones, notebooks, tablets and TV. “It was a very special performance for us. I think those that couldn’t be there in person celebrated with us in the 360° live stream at home or on the move,” explained Leto. A collaboration with Twitter live also ensured the concert was broadcast worldwide.
Sitting in their broadcast van, the production team wove together five different streams to create an authentic concert experience. The all-round image transmitted by the 360-degree camera required a completely new type of production style.
A charismatic personality: Ahead of the gig, Jared Leto (45), who grew up in Haiti and Colorado, gave numerous TV and newspaper interviews that also featured Street Gigs and MagentaMusik 360.
The Street Gigs are also being transmitted in a VR-compatible format. One concert-goer who tested out the experience was visibly impressed.
“Full on Magenta”. The Postbahnof venue in Berlin was resplendent in the Deutsche Telekom color.
Anyone who couldn’t make it to the gig or missed the live stream will soon be able to watch the full Street Gig for free at www.magenta-musik-360.de or on EntertainTV (channel 131).
MagentaMusik 360 was premiered at this year’s Rock am Ring festival. Besides providing HD and 360° live streams of music events (Parookaville, Wacken), it also offers priority ticketing exclusively for MagentaEINS customers for up to 48 hours for selected Live Nation concerts.
