The initiative #ichkaufblau launched by the Blue Angel is designed to encourage consumers to include sustainability criteria in their purchasing decisions. Telekom has been pursuing this ecolabel since 2013: Three product families have been certified by the Blue Angel since then. In addition to the Sinus and Speedphone fixed-network phones, the Entry and 201 media receivers were certified at IFA 2017.  "Carrying the Blue Angel creates more transparency regarding the environmental credentials of our terminal equipment. This means our customers can be guided by Germany’s best-known ecolabel,” says Michael Hagspihl, Director of Consumers at Telekom Deutschland.

Telekom is the first major telecommunications company in Germany to use the Blue Angel label on its brand products. Achieving ecolabel certification is part of Deutsche Telekom's core focus on carrying its long-term CR strategy forward with a sustainable product portfolio. Telekom is planning to submit other products for certification once the corresponding concrete issuance guidelines have been defined and are applicable.

The Blue Angel has been the officially recognized ecolabel issued by the Federal Government since 1978. The label is a sign of independent and stringent standards, making it a trusted indicator of environmentally friendly products. The Blue Angel has an awareness score of over 80 percent in Germany.
