Deutsche Telekom and Saarland launch multimedia initiative

Framework agreement signed at CeBIT in Hanover Deutsche Telekom and Germany's federal state Saarland launched a joint multimedia initiative at CeBIT today with Josef Brauner, member of the Board of Management in charge of sales and service at Deutsche Telekom, and Saarland's Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Hanspeter Georgi signing a corresponding framework agreement in Hanover. This initiative is slated to improve Saarland's communications structures and competitive strength.

This state-level initiative is aimed at providing financial assistance for innovative multimedia projects in Saarland. Deutsche Telekom will be contributing a total of DM 2.5 million to the project over the next five years.

"As an innovative telecommunications company and solutions provider for multimedia applications, Deutsche Telekom will be actively guiding and assisting Saarland on the path to the information society. The fact that Saarland has chosen us to be its partner is both a major show of confidence and strong motivation for us. We want to realize exemplary telecommunications applications in a variety of fields through this multimedia initiative," Josef Brauner stated during the signing activities.

"The telecommunications sector has become the decisive medium and driving force behind the globalization of the economy and society. The 'information economy' is enormously important for both future economic action and future economic policy action. We are taking up these challenges in Saarland, Germany's 'up-and-coming state'. And the framework agreement we signed here today is an important building block in this connection," Saarland's Minister of Economics Affairs, Dr. Hanspeter Georgi, said at the launch of the initiative.

Following the signing, joint working groups with representatives from the state government and Deutsche Telekom's Customer Branch Office in Saarbrücken will start work on specifying and coordinating the sub-projects. These agreements will subsequently also be presented to the public at a joint press conference to be held at the Saarbrücken State Chancellery.
