Ron Sommer inaugurates the first T-Shop abroad

Effective immediately, Deutsche Telekom offers tourists and residents in Palma de Majorca sales and consulting Deutsche Telekom opened its first so-called T-Shop in Palma de Majorca today. By establishing this branch for its customers in Majorca, Deutsche Telekom meets the special communication needs of both vacationers and residents.

"With this first T-Shop outside Germany, we are beginning to put the motto of 'Follow your customer' into practice also for the retail market", Dr. Ron Sommer, Chairman of Deutsche Telekom's Board of Management, explained the strategy behind this first opening of a Deutsche Telekom sales location abroad. To date, only the support provided to business customers' activities had been vital to the Group's internationalisation in order to offer solutions and services from one source, Dr. Sommer pointed out.

The offer at Deutsche Telekom's T-Shop in Palma de Majorca is tailored to the special needs of German and British tourists as well as local residents: In addition to selling T-Card Holiday, T-D1 XtraCash cards, re-charging Pay As You Go cell phones of the Group's British mobile subsidiary one2one and offering adapters for German fixed-network telephones, the shop also offers ADSL lines via T-Online's Spanish subsidiary, ya.com. Consultation on the product and service range, be it support for W@P or for the setting-up of an international T-Online access, is provided by a skilled team in Mallorquine, Spanish, English and German.

In addition, Deutsche Telekom not only ensures an unprecedented on-site service through establishing the Majorca T-Shop but also uses this pilot project to determine to what extent the target group accepts an international Point of Sale with the relevant product and service offer.

The sunny Balearic island is a popular holiday destination for about 3.3 million Germans, 2.2 million Britons and approximately 900,000 Spaniards year after year. A total of 60,000 Germans are even registered as residents there.
