  • New media receiver delivers UHD brilliance and direct access to Netflix

Deutsche Telekom is massively expanding its EntertainTV entertainment offering. Besides technological improvements to the media receiver to support UHD (Ultra High Definition) and direct access to Netflix, Deutsche Telekom is also increasing the range of content on offer. New partners UFA and FOX+ are bringing a huge selection of movies and box sets. What’s more, Deutsche Telekom has secured the premiere rights to three highly-anticipated international series for EntertainTV, including Emmy-nominated U.S. hit series “The Handmaid’s Tale” from MGM Television. The series, the content from FOX+ and UFA, are available to all EntertainTV customers at no extra cost.

“Deutsche Telekom sees itself as an aggregator on the media market – we bring together the best content on our TV platform so that we can offer our customers the best package. Combining superior technology, strong partners and exclusive content is crucial to achieving that aim,” says Michael Hagspihl, head of Consumers at Telekom Deutschland. “With television in Ultra High Definition, Netflix and Fox as well as our exclusive top series, we are taking the next step and underline our leadership in the German TV market.”

New partners, new content, exclusive rights

After acquiring numerous exclusive media rights in sport, Deutsche Telekom has, for the first time, also secured premiere rights for three TV series. Beginning October 4, crime series “Cardinal,” comedy series “Better Things” and “The Handmaid’s Tale”, which recently garnered 13 Emmy Award nominations will be available in Germany exclusively on EntertainTV. All episodes in the series will be available to EntertainTV customers at no extra cost.

Deutsche Telekom is also expanding the content it offers thanks to two new partnerships. The exclusive top series coming to Deutsche Telekom

“The Handmaid’s Tale”, an adaption from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her. “The Handmaid’s Tale” was created for television by Bruce Miller (The 100), who serves as the series’ showrunner. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is executive produced by Miller, Warren Littlefield (Fargo), Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Ilene Chaiken. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

“Cardinal”: In this six-episode mystery series, burned-out Detective John Cardinal (Billy Campbell) is brought back into the Algonquin Bay Police Homicide Unit when the hunch he wouldn’t let go – and got him demoted – about the disappearance of 13-year-old Katie Pine is proven horribly correct.  With his young new partner, Detective Lise Delorme (Karine Vanasse), Cardinal relentlessly tracks Katie’s killer, which soon leads him to a series of murders that are escalating in frequency and intensity. Cardinal soon begins to suspect that Delorme has a hidden agenda of her own, and struggles to keep from her a dark secret buried in his past that keeps threatening to resurface. As they race to catch the most brutal killer their small Northern Ontario town has ever seen Cardinal struggles to keep his head above water as the life he’s built with his wife and daughter threatens to unravel.

“Better Things” centers on Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), a single, working actor with no filter raising her three daughters, Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood) and Duke (Olivia Edward) in Los Angeles. She’s mom, dad, referee and the cops. Sam also watches out for her mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), an English expatriate, who lives across the street. Sam is flawed and fierce with her love for her daughters, and her own mother as well, sometimes heaping the love on when she feels guilty. Sam’s just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also – just maybe – squeeze in some private time once in a while. “Better things” is co-created by Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K., and is executive produced by Adlon, Louis C.K., M. Blair Breard and Dave Becky. The series is produced by FX Productions, Pig Newton and 3 Arts Entertainment.
