E-world 2012: Deutsche Telekom now also meters water and heat
- Installation of meters, remote metering, ancillary cost billing and facility management
- Control radiators via PC, smartphone or tablet PC
- Reduce costs with web applications for housing-related administration processes
Deutsche Telekom has signed a contract with Leipzig-based LAS GmbH (LAS) and DIS IT-Solutions GmbH for a heat-efficiency and property-management package. Deutsche Telekom will offer the joint services for meter operators and the housing sector throughout Germany. "We started with smart metering in the electricity market and are now taking the next step: Deutsche Telekom is supporting energy management for heat and water", says Gabriele Riedmann de Trinidad, Head of the Group business area for Energy at Deutsche Telekom . "The real-estate industry is looking for solutions for its tenants to monitor and reduce heat and water consumption. In addition, the industry is also optimizing its own operating, repair and administration costs with intelligent IT solutions." LAS, a subsidiary of the Leipzig municipal utilities company, has been offering billing services for the utilities and real-estate industries throughout Germany since 2000. In collaboration with Deutsche Telekom and DIS IT-Solutions , LAS aims to close the transparency gap and increase process efficiencies. "Our aim is to give every tenant the means to check up on, and control their individual consumption at any time. We are also integrating the IT systems so that processes run more efficiently and more cost-effectively for the property manager", explains Markus Axt, Managing Director of LAS GmbH. Product bundle for meter operators and real-estate industry The first module includes billing services for heat and water. Here Deutsche Telekom is responsible for the installation and remote metering of heating cost distributors, cold and hot water meters as well as humidity sensors. It also processes the data and generates an ancillary cost bill in the property company's layout. On request, however, customers can also receive data directly. Module two comprises a package of heating thermostats, a data control center as well as an Internet portal via which users can individually control any of the radiators in their home. The portal provides tenants with constant access to current room temperatures, with tenants able to make adjustments where necessary - even while on the move using a smartphone, laptop or tablet PC. Lowering the room temperature just by one degree reduces the energy consumption by around six percent. The latest studies show that tenants can reduce their energy consumption by up to 25 percent by consulting the consumption of their heating online and adjusting it as necessary. The third element of the service package is a web application for tablet PC and smartphone as well as facility management. The "Apartment inspection" application now allows property owners and managers to write the usual report using a mobile device. The application takes into account all existing master data. In the past, the handover report consisted of a document containing up to 11 pages, which was then processed manually so the data could be transferred to the housing management basis system. This process is now fully automated. The DIS-immoport solution forwards all the relevant data automatically to the real-estate industry partners. "Our conservative estimate predicts that around 30 minutes can be saved for each apartment inspection", explains Thomas Spindler , Managing Director of DIS IT-Solutions . "With a housing portfolio of 3,000 units, an annual turnover rate of 15 percent and an hourly rate of EUR 35 , you can save more than EUR 15,000 a year." Facility management allows operators to reduce the consumption of heating systems, thanks to a variety of measures ranging from a one-time analysis and adjusting the heating through to ongoing computer-based control. "The results garnered over many years show that we achieve savings of up to 25 percent", says Markus Axt. Deutsche Telekom will be demonstrating its energy solutions from February 7 to 9 at E-world 2012, at stand 100 in hall 7.
