Video is the next voice: Telekom introduces VideoMeet

  • First video service worldwide that bridges different videoconferencing systems, standards and devices
  • Innovation through partnering strategy: VideoMeet in cooperation with start up Blue Jeans Network
  • Now available throughout Europe with a free 30-day trial period

With the introduction of VideoMeet, Deutsche Telekom makes videoconferencing accessible to everyone irrespective of time, place, and type of device or video service. The cloud-based multi-party videoconferencing service is the first solution globally that connects practically any videoclient. Deutsche Telekom is marketing the solution throughout Europe, starting today in the UK, Germany and Austria.

"Video is the next voice," says Rainer Deutschmann, Senior Vice President Core Telco Products at Deutsche Telekom. "To support this vision we introduce VideoMeet, the very first service that bridges different end-points. VideoMeet is as easy to set up as an audio conference. It adheres to high security standards, and, as a genuine cloud service, it is simply scalable to the needs of our customers and does not require any investment. VideoMeet perfectly connects, for example, companies with distributed offices, home offices and traveling employees, as well as sales departments with their customers."

In accordance with its "Telco plus" strategy, Deutsche Telekom expands its product portfolio by means of partnering and thus create a faster time to market for innovative services. VideoMeet is being introduced in cooperation with California based start up Blue Jeans Network. Telekom and Blue Jeans Network have a partnership since June 2011.

First bridging videoconferencing solution worldwide VideoMeet is the first bridging videoconferencing solution to create interoperability between both business solutions like Cisco/Tandberg, Polycom, Lifesize and others, and light weight solutions such as Skype and Google Video Chat. The service allows companies of all sizes to initiate multi-party videoconferences in an extremely easy way - no matter whether they want to use smart phones, tablets or full-fledged HD room systems. Thus, it is possible for remote workers, people on the road or suppliers using other systems to easily dial into the videoconference. Easy and secure VideoMeet users are each given access to a personal and secure "meeting room" in the VideoMeet cloud that they can use to schedule, host, and manage meetings via an easy web interface. Participants join meetings by simply dialling a number or clicking on a link to attend via video. There's no new hardware to buy or software to download. All that's required is an Internet connection, an existing video-enabled device and people to meet with. Even those without access to video can still participate in a VideoMeet session over audio from their phone, using a dedicated domestic number.

VideoMeet can be used with an IP and an ISDN-based connection. In addition, Deutsche Telekom has introduced firewall traversal, which allows secure access between videoconferencing rooms behind a company firewall and any end point outside the company.

Free 30-day trial period VideoMeet can be used by up to 25 clients at the same time. The service is now available for free for a trial period of 30 days. After the trial period, VideoMeet is available as pay per use, in minute bundles or a flat fee subscription - easy to understand and catering to the needs of businesses. The service can be used worldwide. More information on VideoMeet can be found via www.videomeet.co.uk and also via http://de-de.facebook.com/VideoMeet
