Deutsche Telekom's cloud strategy is paying off. That is the outcome of the current independent cloud provider comparison performed by the Experton Group. Analysts took a close look at the services offered by 109 companies active on the German market. Whether it's for corporate customers or for SMEs, Experton puts Deutsche Telekom ahead of the field with its cloud portfolio. "The Group can now be confirmed to have a portfolio that covers very well the whole range of requirements of this very varied target group," was one of conclusions reached by the 2012 Cloud Vendor Benchmark. First place for managed cloud services T-Systems came first ahead of a field of over 30 providers of managed clouds - infrastructure services tailored to individual customers. "The Group was quick to build up its cloud services for corporate customers," said Deutsche Telekom Board of Management member and head of T-Systems Reinhard Clemens. "As an ITC provider we are in a position not only to offer our customers pure computing and storage capacity, but also to network their sites with our computing centers securely and with the required quality." Experton sees this aspect as a strategic competitive advantage that makes planning and procurement processes considerably simpler. Deutsche Telekom is ahead of the field with managed clouds not only for corporate customers - it's also a leading provider of services for small and medium-sized customers. Experton says it has "considerably expanded its range of infrastructure services in the past twelve months and now offers a spectrum of server, storage and back-up services that are very attractive to small, medium-sized and large companies alike." Innovator for SMEs, pioneer for corporate customers In the SME market, Experton sees the field of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) as a particular driver of cloud computing. Deutsche Telekom is "definitely one of the companies that has expanded its portfolio fastest in the past twelve months and tailored it to the needs of the target group." Experton says Deutsche Telekom's web conferencing service in SaaS mode is "one of the best on the market in terms of availability, security and ease of use." Deutsche Telekom will considerably expand its range of business application services with the launch of its marketplace for SMEs in the summer of 2012. Dirk Backofen, the manager with overall responsibility for cloud services at Deutsche Telekom, said "Our Business Marketplace will combine important applications for small and medium-sized enterprises with Deutsche Telekom's end-to-end responsibility. Storage and security solutions from the network are already practically a matter of course these days. Our customers can now use traditional business processes such as customer and HR management, accounting or video conferencing from the cloud or directly via our portal." The Experton Group's market comparison also comes to the conclusion that " T-Systems' dynamic services can be considered pioneering in the operation of business-critical applications." The range of services, complete with an IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) platform and Microsoft products, was rounded and having its own network infrastructure was considered "a further plus."
