Deutsche Telekom is presenting Internet of Things solutions for industrial applications at this year's SPS IPC Drives automation exhibition in Nuremberg from November 28 to 30. In hall 6, stand 6-259 at the Nuremberg trade fair ground, the company is exhibiting cloud-based complete solutions that also SMEs can deploy immediately and tailor to their individual needs. In collaboration with IoT specialists such as Microsoft (Azure), Cumulocity (Cloud of Things), Harting (MICA®) and Eaton, Deutsche Telekom has developed a standardized product range featuring all of the components necessary for IoT applications: from sensors for production machines to communication networks and cloud-based applications and data (end-to-end).
Depending on individual requirements and use scenarios, Deutsche Telekom can provide customers with the suitable IoT platform. Since March 2017 this also includes Microsoft's Azure+ cloud platform, with essential IoT functions such as analytics, dashboard, and device information management. Companies can now access this important Microsoft solution as a managed service from the highly secure Germany-based cloud. Azure+ digitizes business processes in an intuitive and user-friendly way. Companies can link their existing communications technologies, devices, and customized IoT solutions via a standardized interface. Moreover, Azure+ organizes the resulting data into dashboards, analyzes, and then displays them.
Along with automation specialist Eaton, Deutsche Telekom is launching a new product called "Predictive Maintenance" at SPS IPC Drives, with Eaton providing process control and Deutsche Telekom its IoT platform and connectivity. Those using the product, which recently won second place at the Industry 4.0 Innovation Awards, can set threshold values for almost any machine-supplied data. The solution then emits an individual, real-time alarm if the threshold is exceeded.
Additional services such as SMART Monitoring combine well with the Eaton and Deutsche Telekom solution. The solution is based on a neural network that recognizes and processes anomalies in machine data. The results make it possible to develop both predictive maintenance scenarios and to optimize machine operation. T-Systems can also integrate third-party systems such as SAP or service portals, enabling customers to activate complete process chains automatically.
Then there's HARTING MICA® (Modular Industry Computing Architecture). The compact, robust box can tackle decentralized tasks in the field. It records sensor data, coordinates SPS systems, and communicates with the central IT systems and the cloud. HARTING MICA® consists of a computer that complies with many industry and rail standards, including DIN EN 50155, and makes virtual industrial computing possible. This is an innovative combination of established Linux technologies that virtualizes applications on field devices. With this modular combination of open hardware and software, HARTING MICA® provides a complete infrastructure as a quick way of building intelligence into existing manufacturing systems and collecting data. It is a fast, cost-efficient and future-proof way for small and medium-sized enterprises to implement Industry 4.0 projects.
Deutsche Telekom is also presenting the Cloud of Things in Nuremberg, an IoT platform which enables users to access device data, to set threshold values, for example, for alarms, perform device updates and control machines remotely. Two functions ensure swift and uncomplicated integration: the Cloud Fieldbus makes it possible to integrate machines quickly and saves precious programming time. And Cloud Remote Control provides direct access to devices' user interfaces from anywhere.
At SPS IPC Drives, Deutsche Telekom will report on the latest developments and the progress of rolling out NarrowBand IoT (NB IoT) technology. As a low-energy technology with high building penetration, Deutsche Telekom is promoting this innovation specifically for IoT. This wireless technology is already available at approximately 300 locations around the country and its nationwide roll-out will be largely complete by the end of 2018. Over 150 companies are currently testing NB IoT in their product development, supported by Deutsche Telekom with development and test packages. The first NB IoT-powered products will be presented at the exhibition. Deutsche Telekom offers NB-IoT also in the Netherlands as well as in other European markets such as Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
