Deutsche Telekom AI Hackathon – Empowering Diversity.
The Hackathon is organized by Deutsche Telekom AG (Deutsche Telekom), a Germany-based company with a capital of 74.9 billion euros, whose registered office is located in Bonn, company registration number HRB 6794 (hereafter referred to, collectively, as “Organizer”) a hackathon called “AI Hackathon – Empowering Diversity” (hereafter referred to as “Competition”) from October 29, 2020 – 09:00am until October 30, 2020 – 06:00pm.
The Competition is free of charge and without any purchase obligation. The Competition is open to persons who have the age required by law in their country of residence (at least 18 years) to enter this competition, (ii) who hold a bank account in their country of tax residence, iii) who have IT skills, technical skills, design skills, or marketing skills and iv) who have their own computer hardware in working order during the duration of the Competition (hereafter referred to as “Participant”). Empoyees of the Deutsche Telekom and its affiliates may take part during working hours after commit-mend of their superiors. Employees of the Deutsche Telekom and its affiliates are generally excluded from the prize money and other incentives.
The registration for the Competition is open from September 1, 2020 until October 22, 2020. The hackathon will take place from October 29, 2020 – 10:00am until October 30th, 2020 – 06:00pm.
Each registration in the hackathon is individual, and only one registration per person is allowed during the entire duration of the Competition.
Phase 1: Registration process
- Date: Between September 1, 2020 and October 22, 2020
- Object: Every person wishing to participate can register online on the dedicated website for the Competition accessible at the following address: Eventbrite. The person must provide the following information: last name, first name, date of birth, address, email and their profile for the purpose of the Competition, as suggested on the website. This information is required for the completion of their application.
Each candidate guarantees that the information entered during the candidate’s application to the Competition is com-plete and accurate. Any false, incorrect or incomplete information will automatically result in the application being re-jected.
The Organizer reserves the right to reject an application at any time if the profile of the Participant does not comply with the Competition standards.
The evaluation phase will be a single evaluation at the end of the hackathon. But there will be an optional dry run offered to the teams to get feedback from their coaches.
Dry Run (Optional)
- Date: On October 30 at 10 am to 10:30 am
- Object: At 10 am, each of the teams will show their status to the team coaches for a duration which will not exceed 5 minutes (if possible, including a demo and 2 minutes of questions/answers)
- Place: virtually
Phase 2: Beginning of the Competition
- Date: On October 29 at 09:00 am
- Place: This hackathon will be virtual.
- Object: Participants will meet and form teams of one (1) to five (5) participants to focus around a single project of proto-type (hereafter referred to as “Teams”). One Participant cannot be a part of several Teams.
Phase 3: Hackathon
- Date: From October 29 at 09:00 am until October 30 at 06:00 pm
- Place: This hackathon will be virtual.
- Object: Participants will have to develop AI solution blueprint that tackle one or various themes proposed by the Com-petition.
Phase 4: Evaluations & AI solution presentation
- Final demos
- Date: On October 30 at 02:00 pm to 3.00 pm
- Object: From 2:00 pm, each of the teams will demo their AI blueprint solution to the Grand Jury for a duration which will not exceed 5 minutes including 3 minutes of demo and 2 minutes of questions/answers with the jury.
Phase 5: The Grand Jury’s selection & Competition results
- Date: On October 30, 2019 from 04:00 pm
- Object: The Grand Jury will deliberate on the Grand prize winner. The announcement of Grand winners, challenges’ winners and the reward ceremony will follow the Grand Jury deliberation.
The Grand winner prize will be determined by a jury of 3 to 7 members representing Deutsche Telekom and other professionals.
The jury will designate the Grand winner on October 30, 2020 near 4 pm.
The winners will be selected among the Participants who actually
- Satisfy the conditions for participation as set forth in the present rules
- Participated in the Hackathon session
- Are not Employees of Deutsche Telekom or its affiliates
The jury will select the winning Teams based on the following criteria
- Innovation: is the concept brand-new, inventive, how creative is the concept.
- Effective/Scalable – How effective is the Solution in achieving the Challenge(s) objectives, and how scalable is it?
- Business potential: does it cater to a market, what business value does it create?
- Technological approach – Creative use of AI algorithms and methods, feasibility of solution
- Ethical aspect of the solution – did the team consider ethical aspects while developing the solution? Were those aspects mentioned in the pitch?
- Presentation – Quality of the presentation to the judges
Jury decisions are final and cannot be challenged.
The Competition is endowed with 10.000 € divided amongst 3 prizes
Grand prize: the sum of 5.000€ (divided equally between each member of the winning team).
Second and third prizes: respectively the sum of 3.000€ and 2.000€ each team (divided equally between each mem-ber of the winning team). Employees of the Deutsche Telekom and its affiliates are generally excluded from the prize money and other incentives.
Prizes will be transferred to the Winners within a maximum of 12 (twelve) weeks, to the bank account indicated by the winners.
If the coordinates of a winner are unusable (illegible, incomplete or erroneous), the latter will lose the profit of its prize.
In addition, the Organizer cannot be held liable because of an error of routing of the prize, the loss of this one during his shipment or the impossibility to contact the winner, except in the case of deliberate and grossly negligent infliction of damage. This limitation shall not apply to damage that results in injury to life or limb or harm to health.
No mail will be sent to Participants who did not win.
The Organizer reserves the right to shorten, extend, modify or terminate the competition, or a part of the competition in justified cases or as a result of a force majeure event without incurring liability as a result thereof.
In such case, the Organizer will provide notice thereof to the Participants by any means (including e-mail and/or publica-tion on the Website (by its choice), and, if the need arises, will communicate to them the new rules applicable or the new ending date of the competition, as the case may be. Each Participant may notify by e-mail to the Organizer that s/he refuse the new conditions of the Rules, in which case s/he will be excluded from participating, which s/he expressly accepts. If no refusal is notified to the Organizer within 72 hours, the new conditions of the Rules will be deemed ac-cepted by Participants.
In case of a modification to the rules, cancellation, interruption of the Competition, a reduction or an extension of its length, the Organizer waives all liability and Participants will not be entitled to any compensation.
The Organizer may cancel all or part of participations in the Competition if it appears that fraud has occurred in any form whatsoever, in particular computer fraud, during the Competition. The Organizer reserves, in this case, the right to modi-fy rules, not to award prizes to fraudsters, to disqualify the concerned prototype project and/or to bring actions against the authors of these frauds. The Organizer shall not incur any responsibility towards the Participants because of the committed frauds.
Furthermore, the Organizer cannot be liable in case of damage, whether material or immaterial, caused during the Com-petition and thereafter, to the Participants, to their computing equipment and to the data and to the consequences which can ensue from it on their personal, professional or commercial activity, except in the case of deliberate and gross-ly negligent infliction of damage. This limitation shall not apply to damage that results in injury to life or limb or harm to health.
Exploitation rights and the property of prototypes developed during the Competition are reserved to Participants. Partic-ipants hereby grant to Organizer a non-exclusive, transferable, timely unrestricted, worldwide, royalty-free license to use any rights or prototypes generated or developed in the course of this Competition.
During the Competition, the Participants shall only use elements which are clear of any rights. Any third-parties elements included in the prototype, including open source software, must be clearly identified with their version, the terms of the applicable license and any other details regarding their use. The Participant understands that this information is taken into account in the assessment for the allocation of a prize.
The prototypes shall not infringe any intellectual property right or images right. Each Participant warrants to the Organiz-er that their creation does not infringe in any way any third-party rights, and that s/he obtained, where necessary, the authorization of any third party.
By joining the Competition, Participants expressly authorize the Organizer, for free, to publish, communicate, exhibit and disclose orally, graphically or in writing, projects and prototypes presented during the Competition. Each Participant agrees to be mediatized (portfolio, website, etc.) and authorizes the Organizer, for free, to present all the works realized on all the communication media used in support of this Competition as well as to mention names, first names and imag-es of the Participants.
Under this regulation, the Participant shall not acquire any full or partial right of any kind on the name and trademark “Deutsche Telekom” nor on any names and/or brands associated with Deutsche Telekom, used alone, in association with or as part of another word or name, or any rights on trademarks, names or logos of Deutsche Telekom, or any of its associated or related companies.
The collection and processing of personal data relating to the Participant by the Organizer is primarily intended to en-sure that the competition will be properly completed and in particular to allow the Organizer to contact the winner and to award them the prizes in an efficient way and, if the cases arises, to publish the list of the winners.
With your participation, you confirm that we may use photos and videos for media coverage over Deutsche Telekom channels: Deutsche Telekom website and Deutsche Telekom social media networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twit-ter, Instagram. Furthermore, you confirm that we may store the photos and videos in our media database and make them available to our Hackathons partners as well as to journalists for editorial publications in online media and press reports.
Participation in the Competition implies full acceptance without reservation of the present regulation. Participation in the Competition is strictly personal, and the Participant cannot, under any circumstances, be replaced. Any claim relating to the Competition will be barred after the period of three (3) months from the deadline for participation stipulated in Arti-cle 1.
Any dispute arising in connection with the present Competition, and which could not be settled amicably, will be submit-ted to the competent courts of Berlin, insofar as is permitted by law and no other legal jurisdiction is required.
The present Regulation is submitted to Germany law.
With my registration I declare my agreement with the organization guidelines and my willingness to follow the instruc-tions of the organizer, his helpers or agents.
I should that I am in a good health status. If I discover any security risks for myself, I will immediately inform the organiza-tion team.
The Organizer shall not be liable toward the participant for any damage that arises in connection with the execution of this Agreement, unless the damage is caused at least by Organizer´s negligence. The same applies to third parties commissioned by the Organizer.
I know and agree that I have sole responsibility for my personal belongings and equipment during the hackathon and related activities. I hereby release the organizers, their assistants and representatives of the Hackathon from all liability claims. This does not apply if damages are caused by negligence or intent on the part of the organizers, their helpers or agents. This limitation shall not apply to damage that results in injury to life or limb or harm to health. Furthermore, the Organizer cannot be liable in case of damage, whether material or immaterial, caused during the Competition and thereafter, to the Participants, to their computing equipment and to the data and to the consequences which can ensue from it on their personal, professional or commercial activity, except in the case of deliberate and grossly negligent inflic-tion of damage. This limitation shall not apply to damage that results in injury to life or limb or harm to health.
I know and agree I do have the sole responsibility to ensure immigration formalities and documents and that in the event of immigration problems, health issues, unavailability, personal or emergency reasons I may not claim any compensation. No rewards may be claimed by means of legal action.
