Telekom continues to expand its collaboration with Microsoft. New in the public cloud portfolio is the "DeutschlandLAN PBX from the Cloud based on Lync". With this service, Telekom offers the world's first carrier-grade , meaning high availability and highly resilient, multi-client solution based on Lync, which integrates up to ten devices for each Lync license. The PBX combines conventional business customer telephony with other professional communication functions for SMEs, including an integrated presence status indicator, Instant Messaging, shared desktop, telephone and web conferences as well as integration of Outlook. In addition, Lync can be combined with Office 365, Exchange Online and SharePoint Online. The PBX is available in S, M, L, and XL models, with net monthly prices starting at EUR 7.95. Firms use the browser-based version or connect Lync to their systems via a gateway. "With the 'DeutschlandLAN PBX from the Cloud based on Lync' we are combining Telekom's core competencies in the areas of voice, data, cloud, IT security and end-to-end service with the best unified communication product in the market, namely from Microsoft," says Dirk Backofen, Head of Business Customers Marketing at Telekom Deutschland GmbH. Telekom hosts Lync in highly secure data centers in Germany, supplies a secure connection to the network, and provides all services, including after-sales service and billing, from a single source. Arnd Hungerberg, General Manager for Deutsche Telekom AG at Microsoft, adds: "We are providing Lync from the Telekom Cloud for the first. This gives our customers completely new opportunities for professionalizing their business. We have designed this service for SMEs that want to replace their old telephone system and for SMEs with at least five employees who work together from different sites." Along with Lync, it offers more cloud products from Microsoft and Telekom including the "Cloud workplace with Microsoft". This gives customers a tablet or smartphone plus Business rate enabling them to access applications such as Office365 and Exchange Online 2010. All devices come with the Windows 8 operating system. The service supports in particular customers who are still using Windows XP and Office 2003 and want to update their workplaces now Microsoft has discontinued support for both products. Contacts, appointments and settings are available on all devices, and this data is synchronized automatically. Many Microsoft products can be managed via the free Cloud Manager. Firms use this Web-based administration interface, for example, to manage their users or to check the remaining capacity of e-mail accounts.
