Deutsche Telekom will implement one of its most globally diverse integration projects for the Swiss group Georg Fischer. The big deal with a value of EUR 90 million and a term of five-and-a-half years stipulates that T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom's corporate customer arm, bundles Georg Fischer’s IT infrastructure: For this, the IT infrastructure of the three independent group subsidiaries - GF Piping Systems, GF Automotive (cast components) and GF AgieCharmilles (tool machinery) - will be integrated into the newly created corporate IT department of the industrial group and the global data network will be expanded. Furthermore, the Telekom subsidiary will transfer the SAP systems and other business applications of the global company to the data center in Munich. In future, Georg Fischer will use SAP from the cloud to manage business processes. The basis for this is Georg Fischer’s global corporate network which connects 130 locations including 50 production sites in 30 countries. The new big deal for T-Systems also comprises the integration of Georg Fischer employees into the corporate IT infrastructure via their own devices. In the future, more than 2,000 employees from the Swiss group will be able to securely access the corporate applications via terminals or private laptops and tablet PCs. Therefore, Georg Fischer is one of the first groups worldwide to introduce the so-called "bring your own device" technology. According to a study conducted by the market research institute IDC, the number of mobile employees will increase to approximately 1.3 billion by 2015. "By concentrating our global IT infrastructure on a central data center and one ICT service provider, we expect to achieve end-to-end integration, transparent cost structures and a future-oriented platform for our business processes," said Dr. Helmut Elben, Head of Group Planning/IT at Georg Fischer AG. All SAP services from the cloud With SAP from the cloud, Georg Fischer only pays for the actual consumption of network, computing and storage services. The required resources can be easily adapted to the standard seasonal fluctuations in worldwide business. "We would like to adapt our IT costs more flexibly to the course of business by means of dynamic services. Furthermore, we would like to pass on the monthly costs to our three corporate groups based on exact consumption," said Elben. As part of the new agreement, T-Systems is transferring diverse data centers worldwide and a large part of the applications to the dynamic IT platform at the Munich data center. Moreover, the Telekom subsidiary is responsible for over 6,000 workstation systems of Georg Fischer worldwide and is providing the group with a new, web-based customer portal ("myGF store") for product orders and service inquiries. "More and more large corporations like Georg Fischer are obtaining their data worldwide from the cloud and making a conscious decision for data privacy and IT security in accordance with German law," said Dietmar Wendt, Director Sales at T-Systems, who bears responsibility for international growth.
