CeBIT: Deutsche Telekom adds mobile healthcare measuring devices to product range

  • Mobile monitoring of blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight
  • Medisana VitaDock mobile health platform devices available at T-Shops from mid-2011
  • Modules on show in Hall 19 at Connected Living e.V.’s Stand C20

Deutsche Telekom and healthcare specialist Medisana are exhibiting at CeBIT the VitaDock range of mobile healthcare measuring devices. Patients can use them to read, store, evaluate and relay their blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight data via smartphones and tablet PCs while on the move. VitaDock measuring devices are available for use with the iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch. From mid-2011 the modules will be on sale at Deutsche Telekom’s T-Shop retail outlets. VitaDock app keeps a personal healthcare diary Modules connect to the mobile phone’s interface and relay readings to the relevant app. Its software maps the reading automatically and saves it to a personal database where, if required, it can be stored for years. Diabetics, for example, can use the GlucoDock module to keep a personal diary of their blood glucose readings and no longer need to record them manually. In addition to the GlucoDock® there is the ThermoDock thermometer module, the CardioDock blood pressure and pulse module and TargetScale, which reads and records the patient’s weight and also measures his or her body-mass index and body fat percentage. An example of smart healthcare networking "Via mobile telephony we network professional medical care and nursing care in the domestic environment and thereby help the chronically ill, such as diabetics, to lead mobile, self-determined lives. This is a further example of the smart healthcare network and of Deutsche Telekom strategy. With smart networks, including the Group’s Energy business unit, Deutsche Telekom aims to earn an additional EUR 1 billion in sales revenue by 2015," says Dr. Axel Wehmeier, head of the Deutsche Telekom Group’s healthcare business unit. "VitaDock measuring modules and VitaDock apps also enable healthy people to monitor their pulse, temperature or weight by smartphone. Plugand-Play technology makes the devices easy to use and self-explanatory. That opens up for older people in particular new opportunities to monitor their health," says Ralf Lindner, CEO of MEDISANA AG. All of the measuring devices work with analytic and classification functions that comply with World Health Organisation standards, for example. The personal database enables users to decide whether and which vital data they want to be passed on to others. Furthermore, family members, doctors and carers can help the user not to lose sight of important healthcare parameters, and that represents a gain in safety for the patient.
