Gamesload is the German market leader for game downloads

  • The undisputed number one
  • Gamesload once again leads the GfK Panel Services ranking of Internet portals for commercial game downloads

German market-research company GfK Panel Services has published its new "GfK Commercial Download Monitor" for the year 2008. This detailed report examines the market for game downloads in Germany; ascertains market trends, price structures, and user groups; and calculates the top 5 vendors. The outcome of the current study: Gamesload topped the list of the five most successful game download portals in 2008 with a 29 percent market share, marking the third year in a row that Deutsche Telekom’s games platform has taken the top spot. "The figures emphasize our leading position in the market for game downloads, as well as our customers’ loyalty and satisfaction," says Renate Grof, Gamesload Vice President. "The report motivates us to continue to expand our offerings and continue to live up to our users’ high expectations in future." Based on diary entries The report is based on the (online) diary entries of 25,000 panel participants age ten and older – representative of 64 million Germans in the corresponding age groups in consumer households – in which they record their exact downloading activities. Among other things, the study participants record which games they download, when, and how often; which vendors they use; and whether they purchase the games for themselves or as gifts for others. The resulting validated dataset is then used to calculate buying intensity, product interest, and buyers’ loyalty to a specific vendor.
