Items like ink cartridges, vacuum cleaner bags and light bulbs have to be purchased on a regular basis. However, the wide range of providers and models available often makes it difficult for customers to find what they are looking for. They spend ages searching in shops or even leave when they are unable to find the item they want.

The cloud-based solution created by T-Systems' partner findbox now enables customers to track down the product they are looking for within just a matter of seconds. First of all, a product or its packaging is scanned by findbox's complex multi-camera system. The 3D shape is then analyzed, colors are extracted and compared, texts are read, and logos, shapes and icons are evaluated. Algorithms are used to compare the item with products stored in the cloud database in just three seconds. Screws, batteries, cell phones and all manner of replacement parts can be unmistakably identified. findbox suggests suitable products that are available in the store and takes the customer to the right place on the shelf using a light signal. Communication continues there by way of electronic price tags. These digital labels have a near-field communication (NFC) module and can exchange search, product and pricing information with the customer's smartphone. They can be used in almost all segments of the retail market - from conventional supermarkets to hardware stores to tracking down the latest must-have products in specialist stores.

Digital structures for informing and navigating customers are crucial for store-based retailers in the competitive battle with online providers. A number of European retail companies already use findbox's services, which are provided reliably from T-Systems' data centers in Germany. T-Systems is findbox's sales and service partner and will be showcasing the solution from March 14 to 18 at CeBIT in Hanover.
