More Internet bandwidth does not always require network expansion: More than 745,000 households in some 1,200 cities and communities in Germany can now surf much faster thanks to network transformation. In addition to the IP migration that has been well underway in 50 major German cities, Deutsche Telekom has also been driving forward the migration to the IP network in rural areas. About 450,000 of the 745,000 households involved in this transformation are not located in metropolitan areas. The surfing speed for these customers has been doubled up to a maximum 100 megabits per second (at least 50 MBit/s), with a download rate of up to 40 MBit/s. To benefit from these faster speeds, customers need to select the router and rate that best fit their surfing needs. Deutsche Telekom has already contacted these customers via mail or telephone to provide them with details. Information is also available from the Telekom Shop employees and local partners.

“This month the number of new 100-MBit/s households ranges from several ten thousand in Berlin, Hanover and Munich to several dozen in locations such as Ehingen, Kürten and Malliß. Customers from Flensburg in the north to Schönau in the south, and Kranenburg in the west to Ostritz in the east, are enjoying the benefits of the new service,” says Tim Höttges, CEO Deutsche Telekom. “Our mission is to provide fast Internet for millions of people now, instead of top speeds for just a select few, whether they be in metropolitan or rural areas.”

Customers can check out whether their line is already benefiting from the increased speeds at www.telekom.de/schneller (German only). The advisors at Telekom shops and specialist outlets, as well as at the free hotline (0800 330 1000) can provide the information needed.
